Good spot, right in the center of Tauraunga. However, the owner makes up rules as she goes, e.g. drinking not allowed after 10pm but if she "Sue" drinks with people working in hostel, it's ok to drink after 10pm. Once she finished, you have to stop drinking too no matter if you glass/bottle is half full or not, she will watch you will eagle eyes! Checkout is at 10am, that means not only out of the room, no out of the hostel at 10am sharp, even if your bus goes only in an hour or so...

Owner Comment (Show)
Cheeck out from most hostels in New Zealand is 10am...however you can choose for a small fee to have a late check-out. Drinking policy is very clear to see, most Backpackers don't have an issues with finishing here at 10pm & continuing on at the many bars avaliable at our door step. Thankyou for your feed back.

Cleanest hostel we have ever stayed at, with that said, the worst hostel we have ever stayed at. The owner, sue, makes up absurd rules as she goes. You are only allowed to drink between 6pm-10pm in designated areas, and the tv is only available for use if she isn't watching it. Once she actually interrupted a movie a group was watching to change the channel to watch tennis instead. Her 24 hour cancelation policy is a lie and we were forced to stay an extra night because she refused to refund us
