I booked the Ludao in spite of the adverse comments on the internet. The staff were very friendly and the manager even provided moon cakes and wine on 4th October (Mid Autumn Festival). The girls on Reception did not speak much English but others on the staff spoke excellent English and were extremely helpful. The breakfast was huge and unfortunately not served as one would expect (bits and pieces instead of all together) However a good place to stayI booked the Ludao in spite of the adverse comments on the internet. The location is good for getting to the train or bus station. It's easy to take a city bus to the bell tower area. In general the rooms are very clean, there is free internet. We usually stay near the city center, but for traveling this one was good. The location is good for getting to the train or bus station. It's easy to take a city bus to the bell tower area. The staffs attitude to work and western customers was very poor. Would concentrate more on the Chinese customers than they would with us. They made mistakes with bookings and costs and then making us pay for their mistakes, and making you wait there for an hour when they sort it out and not explain it in English. The rooms were nice for the price but this cannot be classed as a hostel at all, not many backpackers or areas to sit and meet other people. This is def a hotel/guesthouse.The staffs attitude to work and western customers was very poor. Would concentrate more on the Chinese customers than they would with us. We caught the receptionist`s talking trash about foreigners. They did not know that we spoke chinese. Another thing is; You can`t call yourself an international hostel when the people behind the counter doesn`t speak english. The luggage staff was very friendly and spoke good english. They should swap jobs! Good location on the hostel and the rooms where fine. I would stay here again, but the receptionist`s need to learn english, there ain`t many foreigners who speak chinese.. The location is brilliant, the rooms are perfectly clean and the staff is very helpful. Up to this it's a bargain. BUT: The showers and toilet weren't clean at all and it's definitly not a hostel. Reception desk staff speaks no English. Every time we needed assistance, the girls used to call a boy who could speak some English.
The worst happened at check-out. We were charged 35 RMB for a dirty towel, which was ridiculous especially that the towel was normally used. Not to mention that the quality of the towel, which was worse then a rag in Europe.
On balance, quite reasonable standard, very convienent location but terrible staff. Reception desk staff speaks no English. Every time we needed assistance, the girls used to call a boy who could speak some English.

This is the dirtiest hostel ever! I don\'t know if they had cleaned our room once this year! A strange thing is that you can lock your door, but the staff won\'t give you a key, so you have to ask someone to open you room every time. The location is really great though, just 5min from the train station, and close to the bus station. This is more like an hotel though, but the rooms and the staff aren\'t impressing much..This is the dirtiest hostel ever! I don\'t know if they had cleaned our room once this year!
