This sort of guesthouse should not cost more than Rs 300 or so per night. It was not very clean, the rooms would benefit from a re-painting, the service was EXTREMELY slow, any service, such as food or cleaning took HOURS. Some of the staff did not give a very genuine impression but tried to sell us very overpriced services etc

The guys who run this place are lovely and will go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The location is in between the main shopping area and assi ghat, so there isn't many convenient places close by other than a German bakery called bread of life - which is excellent.very basic accommodation, at 600 rupees a night for 2 people sharing, we felt this hostel is overpriced, but varanasi's accommodation is often fully booked.

In honesty, I ended up not staying here. But in my very limited time at Vaishno I learnt that the staff don't care if you live or die (no, really, a guest died, and they really didn't care as long as they were not responsible), or wether or not there are rats on your pillow ("This is India, there are rats in many places."). There's no reason to go here. So don't.

They had mice which ate at the Darjeeling tea I had just bought. They didn't really seem to care...

The hostel is set back from the ghats, but is a easy walk to the river, or the main street. The roof is a nice place to get away from the city, but there is no view of the ghats as implied by the photos. Rooms are simple, but clean and there are hot bucket showers. Internet is available on the first couple floors. The well-priced guided tour was worth it for the crash course in hinduism, but ends at a silk shop. The tasty breakfast will take over an hour, once you find someone to order from.

Positives - close to the ghats at a quieter end of town. As promised a autorickshaw was waiting for us for pick up at train station and the staff in the hostel told him no when he demanded more money than what was arranged. Wifi is free, friendly staff. Negatives - you will get NO SLEEP due to their next door neighbours playing music and hindi films till 4.30 am, this happened both nights of our stay - it was as loud as being in a cinema/night club. Food took 2.5 hours to arrive at restaurant!
