This is the most beautiful hostel I've ever seen. It's in an old palace with tile ceilings and marble floors, and everything feels spotless. The staff was lovely and the roofdeck is wonderful. I was only there for a night but I'll definitely be back!

Great peaceful hostel, very clean and super friendly staff. Could not fault their efforts Atmosphere was lacking as there was so few people staying there, activities could be organised from the hostel to meet people. Location is good but also very close to a really bad street with lots of homeless people and didn't feel safe to walk alone at night

Only booked for 1 night between transfers, would have changed our schedule had we known how nice this hostel was! Gorgeous building, very tastefully renovated with great staff

Great hostel in an beautiful colonial house, with enormous rooms (all adequately air conditioned), great kitchen facilities, decent bathrooms and amazing hang out spaces, including a roof top terrace and super stylish lounge and central courtyard. The staff were friendly, though when we asked if we could stay in the hostel to wait for our bus I was awkwardly told that usually you have to vacate the premises at check out before begrudgingly being allowed to stay for an hour.

Hi Paul, thanks for your review.Unfortunately as you've seen our hostel is small and we can't accommodate late check outs in high season, especially when the premises need to be cleaned before check ins.Guests are always informed about check out time,as were you,but in your case you didn't ask for late check out,you just informed us that you were staying an extra hour and a half while heading with your bags to the TV room. We're glad you enjoyed your stay and good luck on your trip. Macanudo Staff

We stayed in Montevideo for just the one night. The hostel was very clean and spacious. The staff were very helpful, in particular Shaun/Sean who gave us a hint on where to rent bicycles by the hour. Netflix was handy as we wanted a chilled night in. We would like to have stayed longer! The top bunks in the dorms were a bit uncomfortable and hard to climb up on to but that was the only small negative. We would recommend staying here.

We absolutely loved this hostel. It was the cleanest place we have stayed in Sth America and the house is amazing with all its little special features (roof terrace, roof that opens up, Netflix!) We had come from noisy and loud hostels to this quiet and chilled place and loved our stay. The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to help us with an issue we had with a bus company to sort it out for us. Our favourite hostel so far on our travels, highly recommended!!!

A must stay for anyone traveling to Montevideo to chill out. One of the coolest hostels of many that I have stayed in. The staff are awesome, really friendly, helpful and always up for a chat. The place well set up with large rooms. The interior of the building has been well planned, with a choice little sundeck on the roof. Really enjoyed my stay there, thanks lads.

Had a really nice stay. The location is great, really just a few minutes to the main sights downtown. Staff/owners we're really nice. My stay was probably during some quiet days as there wasn't that many people around, but the atmosphere was good. Wifi works great and they even have netflix, which as a first for me at a hostel.

No words to describe it! When we got there, we were afraid because the neighbourhood seemed pretty dangerous, but in 5 days we didnt have any problem. The staff was helpfull, always, and very kind. The place is awesome! Very colorfull , the atmosphere makes you feel at home. Good breakfast (at least they offered everything a brazilian eats for breakfast at home). Everything was clean! They give you towels, shampoo and the room has air conditioner! Everything you need :)

Brand new hostel. Actually, I'd call it a boutique hostel as it is small, well managed, decorated, clean, etc. Good breakfast and nice roof terrace !

Such a cool place with awesome vibes! Beds were so comfortable, breakfast was simple & delicious & the brothers are super friendly. The area around the hostel is a little sketch, other than that, this place is golden.

Locker is a bit small. Breakfast starts at 9am, which is late if you have to catch a bus in the morning. Location is good (close to both the old and the new town); there are homeless people on the streets which can give a feeling of insecurity, but I doubt there is real danger. Staff is friendly and helpful (they phoned a bus company for me and kept dialing until they answered). Breakfast is good. Only two bathrooms, which is not enough. The hostel in itself is pretty: old house and vivid colors

the staff is great and very helpful. The hostel is run by two very nice irish brothers, always keen to help and to chat. The hostel is very colourful with nice atmosphere. the only downside is the location as the street looks a bit dodgy and it is not very exciting to walk around. great hostel if you need to have a quick stop over in Montevideo

I had a fine time at Macanudo. The rooms are big (and air conditioned!), the hostel itself is spacious and the roof is pretty neat. It's a pretty relaxed atmosphere and its easy to hang out with the other guests or just ride solo. The two owners are super friendly and the other employees were very nice/helpful as well. It really is a great spot if you are going to be in Montevideo. The breakfast could use some work, but that certainly didn't take away from a great experience.
