Makako Chill Out Hostel was in an excellent location within the old city of Cartagena. However don't expect cleanliness, we saw quite a few cockroaches around and the bed sheets were not particularly clean. If possible, try to reserve a room with air conditioning - the 5 person room at the end just has fans. The staff was very friendly though and the other people staying at the hostel were great. The common area is spacious and a good place to hang out.

This hostel is poorly ran, and makes no sense in terms of how it is ran which doesn't make it as chilled out as other hostels including party ones. Everything is difficult- difficult if you have an issue with your room, no tabs so money on you at all times, if you want to extend this is also a scatty process which again makes no sense. The kitchen and cleanliness was very bad and the air con broke in the ten bed dorm-so no sleep. The location was perfect and the day staff were lovely.

Great hostel in the old town

It's a Very good place to relax after wandering to the little streets of cartagena. There are many hammocks to lay down or little tables on the balcony. The AC in our room was great. And the staff is super friendly. We arrived after a 14h busride and there was now water in Cartagena. But the staff gave us some of their saved water in a bucket, so we could get our shower. They are very friendly and will help you with all your questions.

The place itself is ok. Nothing worse or better than u expect. However the staff is just the worst ever. Being friendly and welcoming is one thing however being totally dull when managing bookings properly is so common here that if u dont want problems, dont stay here! Bookings are followed on paper!! online bookings have priority vs on spot booking! i was kicked out even though i asked to stay 2 days before! Reason: its my boss's duty, not my responsibity! Book everything online to be secure!!

The staff here are really friendly and helpful and they have plenty of options for tours etc. There was at least 4 fans in my dorm which meant the heat wasn't a problem at all. I'd definitely stay here again.

The people that work there are lovely, very friendly and helpful. Good ventilated bathroom, excellent personal fans in non A/C room that kept you cool enough to sleep even in the heat and humidity on June. Plus nice TV room and free coffee in the morning. I would definitely recommend this place, it is excellent value considering the location in the beautiful centre of the old town, ina very quiet street within walking distance of all tourist attractions, restaurants etc

Staff was very friendly and helpful. They would make recommendations and offered to call taxis if needed.

Not a party hostel. Felt like a family home with big living room and shared kitchen. Great to sit in the breeze on the balcony and watch people outside pass by. The 10 person dorm has AC, which I would recommend even though a bit crammed. Lovely staff, offering to help you out with anything. No breakfast but coffee in the morning and fresh lemonade all day. Only downside: only three toilets with showers..

Good location everything in walking distance, easy to meet people. Not a party hostel. Helpful staff. Kitchen, large lounge area.

The staff are lovely, BUT - the kitchen was absolutely disgusting with bugs all over the worktop, not enough utensils, lots of bugs in the bedroom and the whole place felt dirty. A shame as its in a nice area & has potential! I left asap.

Nice and chilled out atmosphere, quiet rooms and a beautiful common area as well as a convenient location in town. Some of the staff is nice others are quite indifferent. The checkout times are later than in other hostels which is great, however you might need the time in the morning to as the amount of bathrooms is insufficient for the size of the hostel.

Fantastic stay here. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Especially pregnant lady I'm sorry I can't remember the name of. A great location in a beautiful place. Runs tours to playa Blanca, the Rosario islands, and elsewhere, which are great. Just a brilliant atmosphere. Good facilities, reliable wifi, fans in rooms and one room with air con... They even gave us free iced lemonade every day when we came in out of the heat! Lovely place.

My friend and I stayed here for 4 nights. Even though the hostel hasn't got the best facilities, it is a great place where to stay. Staff is really friendly and helpful and speaks a very good English too!! Great location in old town near supermarket which is always helpful. Very pleased. Thank you.

We really loved this hostel. The aircon in the rooms was great, most of the staff were incredibly friendly and there was a really nice atmosphere. We asked to reserve a night for when we got back, and they wouldn't confirm it. They told us to wait until the morning, and when we asked in the morning they told us we definitely had a bed but they weren't sure in what room. When we came back we didn't have a room, and they tried to put us in the Chill House which has terrible reviews.

Friendly staff, nice area, no parking (even if indicated here), bathrooms so-so (one of two lacking toilet seat), but overall much better than the hostels I've seen in Getsemani

Day staff, Vivi makes this hostel. Not a great atmosphere overall though. Lemonade or coffee on arrival is much appreciated!
