The room was very big with its own kitchen area, staff were very welcoming and friendly and the place was very very clean. However I felt very unsafe in the location. I left as soon as I could the next morning.
Great apart-hotel, clean, big rooms, keen staff. Wifi sometimes a bit dodgy in the room, but the only down side is that the area is not that great and you need to probably take a taxi to get anywhere of interest. We often walked, as we don't mind a 30+ minute walk one way or the other but some neighbourhoods are pretty sketchy and can feel intimidating- although we had no trouble except for kids begging.
I picked Makati Hotel because it is relatively close to the airport. I had booked one night but ended up staying 3. It was clean, comfortable and staff were very welcoming. They provide a folder with directions into the main city (where to walk, what jeepney to catch) so it was very easy. No complaints from me.
For an authentic taste of Manila and the people on the street, this is the place to stay. The guest house is comfortable and well decorated. In fact, the person who decorated the place should be given an award. The color of each tile and wall hanging and antique chest or seat has been masterfully blended to give the eye a sense of peace and leisure. It all fits here. Not so easy to find, so get help from the driver, but safe and the best value for your money for under $30. Richard
This place is incredibly clean. Our room was like our own little pad, with international tv channels for those missing home. The staff are super helpful, the owners son gave us some great advise for our future travels around Philippines. The area it is located in is a little out of the way but it's easy enough to get a tricycle or jeepney. It's a bit more suburban but we both felt safe. I would defiantly recommend this place.
The room is nice and clean. The people at the reception were friendly and helped us with planning our trip to the rice terraces in Banaue. The bus to Banaue left in the evening and we could leave our backpacks at the hostel.
Good value for money! Clean, nice room, good bed and very helpful staff. The area is not the best (homeless sleeping on the street nearby), but if you don't walk around alone in the evening it's a very good place to sleep. I would come back here.
Stayed at the San Augustine residence in Makati City. They have very accommodating staff who give you honest and helpful advice on getting around, they even provide a guide book on how to get to locations of interest to tourists, small things like that impressed me. The security seems low but staff are so humble and honest never felt like my valuables were under threat. Good area of Manila as well and lots of restaurants, pubs and entertainment around for all ages.

Nice place to stay with excellent location and helpful staff! Not a place to meet other travelers though.
