Map & directions
From the bus or train station take bus number 3 or 33 to Gran via 1 stop, which is also known as the Cathedral stop. From there you can either come up walking or take the MINIBUS # 31 to get up the Albayzin. Get off at the stop: monasterio st. isabel la real, makuto is located 50 m down from the monastery.
Walking from the Cathedral: Cross Gran Via Street and Exit the bus and walk back towards the intersection you just passed. You will be on a street called the Gran Via and at the end of the crossing will be a Caixa Bank. Cross Gran Via here and head into the street called Carcel Baja. Keep walking. Then, continue to walk up next street called Calderia Nueva. You will be walking past many Arabic shops and restaurants. At the end of Caldereria Nueva there is a church and the Street name changes to 'Cuesta de San Gregorio'. Follow up this street until you reach an impressive orange moorish house called 'Carmen de la Media Luna' with a big palmtree infront. Here turn to your left through 'Muladar de Doña Sancha' and the first one to your right is Calle Tiña (Makuto is in number 18). If coming with heavy wheel luggage we recommend to a taxi at Plaza Nueva since the streets are coblestone (read intructions)
From the airport: Take the airport bus to Granada and get off in Gran Vía con Reyes Católicos stop,(city center, estimated time: 25 min.),which is also known as the Cathedral stop. From there follow upper intructions Walking from the Cathedral since minibus 31 is not reaching Santa Isabel La Real due to street restoration.
By taxi:
Ask the driver to take you to "Monasterio de Santa Isabel la Real", which is the nearest place to Makuto where a taxi can arrive. It can cost you about 6-8 euros from Bus or Train St, and 30 euros from Granada's Airport depending on traffic. Calle Tiña is just in front of this Monastery. This option is highly recommended if coming with wheel chair or heavy luggage.
By car:
From Málaga, take the ring road of Granada (Span.: 'circunvalacion'), and take the exit called Mendez Nunez and continue along the Avenida Fuente Nueva until you reach the Avenida de la Constitucion. There, at the light, go straight on into the Avenida de Madrid and take the
direction of Albayzin-Carretera de Murcia.
From Carretera de Murcia, you enter into the Albaycín through the Pages Street (Calle Pages), continue until
you arrive the Salvador Church (Iglesia del Salvador), once there go around the church into the Tomasas Street (Carril de las Tomasas), then take Camino Nuevo de San Nicolas, until you reach at least Santa Isabel la Real.
You should park in that street. To get to the house by car is not easy and it is difficult to find a place to park.
Calle Tiña is just in front of the Monastery Santa Isabel la Real.
Another option could be: park the car in the parking El Triunfo in the Avenida de la Consitucion. In this case,
turn to the right at the light mentioned above into the Avenida de la Constitucion and you will see the parking
after a few metres. You continue your way walking up or by taxi.
Important if driving
The district of the Albayzín is protected by the UNESCO and the access by car is restricted. You should know that to get into the Calle Pages, you have to do it from 8-11 am or 14-20 pm.Otherwise the entrance is restricted to neighbourghs. There is no time limit to exit the old district.
