Andrik, the receptionist is a great guy. He brought us a glass of water any time and did us great favours. Also the owner himself is so nice. He told us where we can have the best food in town, where to go, what to see and told us stories of the history of the people here. Great. The hostel itself is also really nice, comfortable, silent rooms and clean shared bathrooms. We would defenitly come again, thanks!

We stayed in a double room without a bathroom (room1) it was a nice size room and air con worked well. The hostel was clean and tidy and just a few minutes walk from anywhere you would need to go. Water is provided and the staff are really helpful. The only think that could be better is if people used the communal area; it was always quiet so not much atmosphere but that could have just been when we where there

I had a single room no sharing. The air con worked well. The place was quiet except for when a couple of kids ran around all night. Recommended place as felt very safe there despite being single young woman traveling on her own.

Close range to hipster cafes and line clear nasi kamdar. Just about 10minutes walking distance to Komtar and Prangin Mall (also the bus station). Limited halal food around that area, so muslims do take note (: clean and cosy, staffs are very friendly and helpful.

Malabar is in a great location to explore Penang. The old town is all within walking distance, and if you want to go further afield the main bus station (near Komtar) is just a 10 minute walk away. The single room is as basic as it's possible to get, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. There is no floor space - just a bed. The bathroom is as small as it's possible to get. I struggled to dry clothes with the very limited space, but that was my only problem Owner gives great travel help

Best Staff ever! Henry knows everything about Georgetown, he will guide you to the best restaurants and food stalls in the town. He will also keep you hydrated 24/7;)

I stayed in a private room because everything was booked in Georgetown due to the end of Ramadan. The room was tiny and had no windows, the bathroom so cramped that I almost couldn't sit on the toilet. I didn't notice that this was a hostel as I wasn't even being told about a common area, let alone being shown. The staff was helpful with giving tips for ATM and laundry locations though.

It is a bit far from the jetty if you choose to walk. If you arrive during the peak hour, you can't get a taxi easily. The staff is excellent. They introduced lots of attractions and delicious food over there. The room is small but clean.

A gemstone! Why? The staff!! Hendrik and Tony are the most helpful and nice people ever!! Its almost rediculous! :) The rest of the place is totally ok, good value for money but nothing special, but it's not important, the staff makes it fell like a 5 star hotel.

Didn't take Visa so make sure you have cash. But overall a great spot!

Brilliant find. Tony and Henrik couldn't have been nicer, really clean rooms and bathroom, new mattresses, great air con, excellent location - an easy walk into the heritage centre or the bus station. More of a relaxing, quiet hostel than a place to necessarily meet people but that was exactly what I wanted - would definitely stay here again!

A nice little hostel tucked along the busy Chulia street. Its prime location means we are mere minutes away from a renown cafés and street vendors.

About 10 minutes walk from Komtar Bus Station. Located in the central of George and you can easily walk to anywhere. The single ensuite which I stay was quite nice, perhaps can improve by adding one small table. There is also a nice rooftop where you can relax.
