Our stay at Mama Naxi's was an excellent one. It's located within the Old Town but seems perfectly situated from both the bustle of the centre and the exits to the city. We stayed with Mama for just over a week and we're absolutely pleased with the service. We received all the help required for our travel plans within the area. Upon our arrival we were immediately given tea and bananas, just as we had read. The room was comfortable and overlooked the courtyard, and the evening meals were a joy.

We came to the hostel very late–the lady showed us a room and disappeared. It was completely cold inside because door and windows have holes, one warming blanket didn’t work and there was no hot water. In the morning we complained. Reception lady called the owner – MamaNaxi, who shouted at us for 10 min and didn’t let us speak. Finally we paid 70%and moved to another hostel. Positive things ware the very good location in the old city center and nice lady (but not decisive)at the reception。

I can only rate 'very poor' because the staff at Mama Naxi's not only didn't reply to our email asking for directions from the airport and more specifically once in Old Town Lijiang (previous reviews said the place is hard to find) but also didn't answer the phone when we called repeatedly - would I recommend anyone stay here? Why, when the other hostels in town are full of friendly, helpful and responsive staff? We ended up staying at Carnation (excellent). Garden Inn & Pamba are also great.

Apart from Mama there wasnt much good about here. The place was freezing at night because the door didnt close on the dorm. There were no lockers. The location was nice but can be very difficult to find if you dont get them to pick you up.

Mama Naxi is maybe too attached to her money, but try the dinner in the hostel and you won't regret it!!!

arrived very early in the morning, to their credit they got me to the hostel but only because I can speak a small amout of Chinese and native Chinese helped me as the man on the other end of the phone spoke no English at all. The room was small and the noise travels through the walls like they are not there. We stayed in the smaller guest house, described as relaxing, quiet and more intimate. It was none of these things. Left after one night despite having a 3 night booking

Located in the heart of Lijiang Old Town, this place is hard to find. But once found, you would actually appreciate its location. Rooms were pretty basic, comfortable beds, but very noisy and non-lockable doors. Quite noisy in rooms, too. Staff may appear rude at first, but they are not that bad, would help you organize your trips (with a little extra money). I could not squeeze the info how to get to the train station though, they would just tell me to hop on their minivan... Overally, not bad!

we heard bad reviews, but it was the cheapest place during the Chinese's holiday, so we got there. it was surprisingly good - we stayed at MAMA NAXI no. 1, so it was very nice and quiet, and the woman who work there was nice and helpful. we went to see MAMA NAXI no. 3 - where the restaurant is and where you may find dorms, and we didn't like it.

Mama is the best! The daily evening dinners are not only delicious and good value (especially in this overpriced city) but they are also a great place to meet fellow travelers.

The two guesthouses are a 5 min walk from the center of the old town, therefore nice and quiet. The 6pm dinner party is a good place to meet other travellers. Mama Naxi also organises minibuses to the TLG, train tickets etc. Great place to relax and hide from the tourist masses.

We've had a double room and it was one of the worst rooms we've ever had. It was very small, dark and not the cleanest one. But the worst thing about it was that it was extremely loud as it was situated next to the shared bathroom and there was no complete separation from it. Same was to the inner courtyard why we couldn't sleep until 2 a.m. as there were people talking. Staff was only one person who was always busy as there were too many requests. We speak about the dorms, only double rooms.
