Mama Naxi is BY FAR my favorite. First, Mama is the best! She is always there to take care of you. She would hand us fruits, snack, and tea whenever we stop by the hostel. Also, dinner by Mama is a must. For only 25rbm, Mama will cook you a 7-course delicious Naxi dinner and you get to meet other backpackers. Rooms are very cozy with ample supply of toiletries and blanket. Common bathroom was clean. Hot water always available. Staff very helpful (with transportation to TLG, attractions, train...

Excellent choice where to stay in LIjiang! Good thing about it is that you get to live in a real Chinese house and there's a friendly mama taking care of you:) The other guy at the reception is super friendly and helpful as well, he once ran about 300 meters after me after he forgot to tell me that a need a passport to buy a train ticket! Family dinner is a must! Dorms are cheap and the beds are comfy, there was wi-fi in the room. No lockers in the rooms though, there are in the corridor.

Mama Naxi (nah-shee) is so kind! She gave me a bunch of snacks and a big kiss on the cheek when I left for the train station. It's tough to find so get oriented with a map before hand. Don't be afraid to ask nearby restaurants for directions. Most people on the streets are tourists and will be lost too! The breakfasts were decent, but there may be better options outside the hostel. The building itself is built in the Naxi style, it's got all the amenities of other hostels.

We stayed in a double room with private ensuite. Very helpful staff, gave us all the info we needed for Tiger Leaping Gorge and booked transfers for us. Highly recommend.

Mama naxi's was hard to find even with help of locals, they confuse it to a place called naxi mama. When you find the place they are very welcoming and helpfull. Family dinner was amazing. Dorm had dirty sheets.

We didn't really get along with Mama but really enjoyed the advises of the younger staff who took care of a lot of things for us. Dorms are big, comfortable, really clean, the house is beautiful and perfectly located (in the old town but not in the center which is really loud).

Not that good as I was expecting, from the other comments or guidebook. The staff was very unfriendly, which surprises me. Just ok, good value for money. One good point: the travel information desk and the transport organisation to the Tiger leaping gorge.

Amazing hostel, one of the best I stayed in in China. Great staff, extremely helpful. They can book plane, train and bus tickets for you with almost no service charge, and give great advice. A real cosy and homey atmosphere, great to meet fellow travellers, also the family style dinner is greta value and pretty amazing. The hostel itself is absolutely beautiful.

Very helpful and well prepared. Any question will get an answer and help if needed. The family dinner is amazing and a nice and social event. A shame that you have to have your own toilet paper. I'd prefer to pay a little more and have that and soap supplied. And we missed the lockers for our things [dorm]. Fortunately we have a 'packsafe' but others didn't.

mama naxi is great (the real person). if you cough she makes you tea. the old building is cool. family dinner is excellent. i liked the hostel but the security could be improved. there are no lockers in the dorms. they have them out in the hallway, but its not the same. also, the room locks with a padlock from the outside and a sliding bar of wood from the inside. so you cant lock the door unless everyone is in or out. just needs those two things.

The bathroom wasn't cleaned as much as I wanted. The room was a little small, compared to other hostels. It's hard to find at first, as everything is in Lijiang.

The hostel is a little tricky to find, but luckily if you call when you arrive at the train station they can send a van to pick you up for 50 RMB (per van) and then they will walk you to the hostel. From the moment we walked into the hostel, we enjoyed the warm hospitality of Mama Naxi herself, who offered us treats while we were checking in. Several other times she offered us treats and bananas. We really appreciate the warm treatment we received the whole time we were there.

A bit difficult to find, Mama Naxi has a great location in the old town, very close to the market square. It was really nice staying at an old Chinese house and everyone was helpful and friendly. We also booked our tickets to the Tiger Leaping Gorge here and got a free banana as we were leaving :)

Vey glad to have had a chance to stay here-the staff was very helpful and so cheerful, would like to visit again when they have the family diners. Only down side was no lockers for valuables.

Awesome hostel to stay at in Lijiang. They hook you up with whatever it is you need whether it is directions or help with booking tickets (small fee for walking the distance and spending the time to do so)... Solid hostel overall and highly recommended.

A nice freindly place with a good groups of guests at the time. Reasonably priced considering the local and the owners provided a good level of hospitality which left us feeling welcome. Most of the locals know of this hostel and thus gettign directions to it is easy which is a plus since Lijiang old town itself is a rabbit warren.

The hostel was decent but a little cold at night. The staff were pretty helpful and organised a private minibus to take us to Tiger Leaping Gorge for 30RMB each.
