We booked a private room two hours before arriving. But there was no private room left. So we took a dorm for 8 $ pp. We payed 5 $ to the website for the private room. That's why we asked to pay these 5$ less. She accepted it after three times asking as it was not our fault. The dorm was alright with a big bathroom. It could have more fans and a mosquito net. At the evening we met the very sympathic owner and had nice conversations. The next day we got a small breakfast (two pancakes) for free!

Alfredo and his wife speak fantastic English and are full of local knowledge and tips. The hostel itself is chilled out, authentic & family owned. Good social areas, a communal kitchen, good wifi, free drinking water, delicious local breakfast and coffee for $4, $15 airport pick ups. The bathroom was clean, towels provided, the beds were made and comfortable (in both the dorm and the private room), and the hostel seemed safe and secure.

Overall we were very satisfied with Doña Ida. It is a safe, friendly, and clean environment, with an excellent location close to many restaurants. The common space and number of guests facilitates interactions among guests, but it is also possible to find private space. Being a family owned hostel makes Doña Ida feel more personal than other, larger hostels I have stayed at. The rooms are no-frill, so if you need a hot shower and air conditioning, they are not for you, but they are a good value.

Booked a deluxe 3 bed suite, got a basic 2 bed (but still charged for 3 bed), apparently there are no 3 beds! Over priced for such a basic room with a dirty bathroom and broken shower door. Staff dismissive. They could have offered a discount for the fact 3 people had to sleep in 2 beds but they didn't, really disappointing start to Nicaragua! Would not recommend this place

Friendly people but we reserved a triple (3 beds) and there were only two bunk beds (the bottom one was larger) for 3 big guys. In poor timing the wifi was not working as well as the water would shutoff from 10pm to 2 am for maintenance so we could not shower that night. Also would like screens on the window so insects cannot get in if the window is cracked for fresh air. No A/C and we paid $3/person more earlier in the trip and had ample A/C, 3 separate beds, working wifi and water haha...
