Manakin Lodge was an incredible stay due to the excellent staff and slightly out of the way location. Johnny, who has extensively studied the Monteverde ecosystems, was an excellent guide! Please do yourself a favour and hike through the rainforest with him. We liked that the hotel was not in the main drag area but a short walk away (with a huge hill). The shower was not the best but there was hot water. The hotel a little run down but you'd be supporting Costa Ricans not Americans.
