staff was definitely the highlight of the accommodation
You are basically sharing a holiday flat. There is a little kitchen and a fridge. The owner is very helpful. The place is not in Iraklio, though, but a few kilometers out of town. At night it is quiet.
The location of this hostel was subpar - on a beach next to a power plant (dumping something in?) with lots of shabby tourist trap places. The facilities are blah. The staff was OK and helpful on getting a cab, but pointed us to a restaurant that was the worst I went to in Crete (did he get a kickback or just have poor taste)? You can find better. Also the map is wrong - this is FAR FROM THE PORT.
Fragiskos was an amazing host and went out of his way to collect us when we were lost. Overall a very good hotel and good transport links to central Heraklion on the number 1 bus.
Fragiskos(the manager) was super friendly and congenial. The place ok. Pool is awesome.
The downfalls for this place are more a function of Heraklion than the hotel itself. There does not seem to be anywhere in Heraklion for young travelers, so this hotel seemed like the best alternative. Once you get out to the hotel (30-45 minute bus ride from airport), it is pretty great. A short walk to the beach and many restaurants. It was also nice to have a private room with kitchen and a pool at the hotel.
Very good hotel
