I recommend Margouya 2. On Sunday I shared in a lamb barbeque hosted by the owners, a real treat. The Wifi was not working the first full day there, but they called in a technician and had it working the next day. They did not serve breakfast, but coffee and tea were available all day. They also have an extensive collection of DVDs. Plus, the staff can recommend many day trips in the area. Suggestion: more bathrooms!

The hostel has no lockers but they can hold your gear if you want. Very nice, friendly and king people and I will definitely stay there in other trips to south Chile.

Nice big house made into a hostel. Great facilities, dvds, books, games, bikes, kitchen, tours and its attached to a Spanish school. Clean and tidy. Would be great if they had breakfast included.

Only two downsides 1- only two bathrooms so it can be tough getting in one. 2- thin walls. The hospitality, great location, and huge DVD collection make up for it though. Really great atmosphere and a beautiful, old house. I would definitely stay here again, can't really say enough about how nice and accommodating the owners are. Great place.

most positive experience was the staff - recommandations what to do in the area were given without asking. maps and guides provided. the feeling in the house was very good - fireplace, living room and facilities for internet. actually one point goes negative - the voices and sounds from other rooms can be heared everywhere - so a privatsphere is definitelly limited. this actually can be experienced in nearly every hostal in chile.

A lovely old house but any noise carries. Things do improve once its finally gone to bed. There isnt enough cooking space.

Owner Comment (Show)
Dear Thank you for posting your review. We are sorry to hear that our efforts have not met your expectations, however, we would like to add some context to what you have written. Firstly, Casa Horn is a wooden house from early 1930´s and is typical to this region. In recent years Gobierno Regional de los Lagos has included this house in Circuito Turístico Patrimonial de Puerto Varas which means that, unless posing a danger to human life, any alterations of its structure (including sound insulation) are strictly forbidden. Secondly, the toddler you mentioned was staying with his parents (who had been travelling for 6 months), he did make some noise and we were fully aware of such possibility when we accepted their reservation. We do not categorize people. Margouya 2 is open to every traveler no matter if they are travelling alone or with families. Thirdly, although spatial perception is subjective, we feel that saying that our kitchen is small is overwhelmingly exaggerated. It is nearly 5 meters long, 3,2 meters wide and 3,4 (!) meters high (just google "metric system conversion" if necessary). There are two fridges, six-burner stove and double sink and up to 10 people can comfortably have their breakfast/dinner/supper in the adjoining dining room. Given the lodging capacity, we believe it is a decent ratio. Lastly, the blond European guy was Simon and we can assure you he one of the kindest and helpful people who have ever worked with us. Yours sincerely, PIERRE PASCAL, DIRECTOR

A lovely "cabin", the first hostel where it actually smells good. Nice (german?) staff, cleen and last, but not least, they have an impressive DVD-collection you can borrow from and watch on the big-screen TV. Sehr gut!

Very nice House, helpful Staff, you can book many Adverture Tours directly there. Though the atmosphere mostly depends on the guests, at my time there it was a bit individualistic and non-comunicative!

This hostel looks more like a cottage. Spacious and calm, this is a good place to rest. Bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen are very clean. Kind and helpfull staff and a very welcoming owner. The location is perfect, just a few meters from "downtown". The city itself is beautifull. We had a nice canyoning trip!

Fantastic staff- very helpful. We used this hostel as a base and kept heading off for treks and the staff were so helpful in providing advise for our adventures and looking after our luggage.

A very special place. Pierre and his staff are fantastic and like family. The guesthouse is beautiful and in a great spot. Definitely one of my favorite hostels I've stayed at in South America. Only problem is that they book up so quickly!

A really nice well thought out hostel inside a large old mansion. The room we had was huge and clean. The kitchen was good and the staff were helpful and understanding.

Could not have picked a better place for Christmas! Great staff, helpful and overall cannot fault it. Also with the language school, there are opportunities to learn languages. The Christmas turkey was particularly delicious! Highly recommended!!!!
