I read a lot of negative reviews and was a little worried but I had no problems at all. The guy running it was very nice. Didn't speak english that well but that's not uncommon at a hostel.
I haven't been to a youth hostel for 20 years but was pleasantly surprised. The Mark Twain Youth Hostel is in a GREAT location. I loved the neighborhood, the sun porch, my room, and the owners. I do think the place could use a deep clean and to throw out a lot of stuff. And the kitchen needs some TLC. But I loved my room; it was quiet, had a/c, and I felt so at peace there. Staying at this youth hostel was one of the highlights of my three-week trip!! Thank you so much for having this place.

If you have ever been to a hostel then expect exactly that. It´s a big house with the most friendly Taiwanees owners. We had a big room to ourselves because it was quiet that day. The bed was clean, the floor was clean, don´t look under the bed, and the bathroom was clean like you would expect in a hostel. There´s free wifi and you can sit downstairs on the couch or on the inside veranda up front. It´s a really nice house and atmosphere. We only stayed for one night and it was perfect!
Although the owners are nice, it's difficult to find them at the hostel. The hostel is unclean, that's really awful! We don't have a nice atmosphere. It doesn't have good facilities, the laundry is terrible. Mainly the bathroom, it was terribly dirty (it seems nobody cleaned it for years).
A bit to high price for what you get. Seemed like a house where a family lived and run a hostel. Facilities where pretty much run down.
