Matsuyama Youth Hostel Reviews

At first I wasn't sure to come to this hostel because of the negative comments on hostelworld, but then I saw that the lonely planet guide really recommended it for being very clean and for being nicely located. Well the location is indeed good but nothing else positive can be said about this place.

DO NOT STAY HERE. I HAD BED BUGS ATTACK ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND 6 DAYS LATER I AM STILL SCRATCHING MY SKIN LIKE CRAZY. THE OWNER IS NOT FRIENDLY AND DID NOT REFUND ME EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T GET ANY SLEEP. THE LOCATION IS HANDY FOR DOGO ONSEN BUT FOR FEMALE TRAVELLERS I DON'T RECOMMEND IT AS YOU HAVE TO WALK UP A DARK, STEEP HILL AND I DIDN'T FEEL SAFE EVEN THOUGH IT WAS JAPAN. OWNER DIDN'T TRY TO HELP A FELLOW TRAVELLER WHO NEEDED HELP BOOKING ACCOMODATION EITHER.

Its a long way from the centre of Matsuyama but good for the Dogo Onsen area. Also note there is a 12pm curfew at night.

The hostel is in a good location, but the directions are vague. It is very close to Dogo Onsen, but it was impossible to tell which way to walk from the Honkan to the Hostel.. The staff were friendly and quirky, and the Japanese style room was very nice. Optional meals for those who book in advance are also nice.

I woke up in the middle of the night (about 1AM) to find 4 bed bugs crawling around on my bed. it was so disgusting, so i went to the lounge room area and just waited to sun to rise. the staff were not helpful at all. they only refunded the night i was meant to stay but i didnt for the night i got eaten alive. would not recommend this place, not just because of bed bugs but also becasue it was at the top of a hill and i had heaps of luggage. not a fun experience
