Cold showers, cold rooms. 1 blanket which is itchy. Lockers are crappy. Small beds. Average wifi. It's worth spending a little more
You're literally just paying for somewhere to sleep at night and I wasn't even sure if the sheets that were already on my bed were clean or just there from the last person that stayed and the blanket smelt like sweat. The shower is fine as long as you don't leave it too late in the night otherwise it's cold. It would've been nice if there was a kitchen because Sparky's was closed. It is one of the cheapest places to stay and the reviews were basically true so I knew what to expect which was fine
Security must be improved. Behavior of receptionist should be more cordial. Restaurant should be in running condition. Quality or blanket and bed could be better.
More like a drop in mountain hostel then a home away from home. Great bar up top but rooms n beds were small n pretty shabby. But its still the cheapest in zermatt so take the plunge!
Great choice in expensive zermatt . Faculty was mediocre, but sparky's restaurant had great food and vibe.

The water temperatur at the showers could not be regulated. some of my group had cold shower, some very (too) hot.
I really enjoyed my stay at the Matterhorn hostel. It's cheap and has a nice bar/restaurant.
The staff turned rude after me saying that the information on hostelworld mentions Free breakfast. I wasn't fishing for a free breakfast, merely mentioning what information i was given at time of booking. The staff didn't even look at me when i tried talking to her and she directed me to the manager the next morning, whom pointed to a laminated piece of paper saying breakfast was avail. at a supplement fee. The manager said that information published on hostelworld was out of his control.

Firstly, if everyone is paying the same price, everyone should be getting the same service. For example, in a 6 bed dorm there are 4 large lockers (two beds have to share in one case) and the unlucky one has to do with a high school style locker which fits nothing else in. There are no locks on the dorm doors and no security features stopping anyone from walking in from the street and checking out every single room and what there is to take. The excuse 'this is not LA or New York' doesn't cut it
The facilities were pretty much what I was expecting, however I was expecting that there would be some kitchen facilities to allow for a level of self-catering. This was off-set a little by the hostel offering an CHF 8.00 breakfast consisting of muesli, tea/coffee, bread, cheese, butter & an assortment of jams. The breakfast doesn't start until 7.30am, which was a bit late for me due to most guided tours/climbs starting at 6.40am. The adjoining restaurant (Sparky's) was very good also.
Nothing fancy and definitely not a boutique hostel, rather simple with some "mountain hut" feeling. But not bad after all if you spend your day outside and just need a place to sleep. And clearly, the BEST price in town! Also, he staff was very friendly unlike some other reviews might indicate. Some drawbacks: Not much was going on in the hostel (very small community room and a restaurant/bar). Also, after around 7pm, the shower was cold so plan ahead.
There's no hot water for shower after 6pm, even in summer!

The breakfast is very basic and not worth 8 chf
An accommodation lags behind compared with a price unreasonably. I assign for 3 people(the room placing the single bed closely to the bed on the second floor) use room as the double. We're sleeping at night, it was cold with one blanket which was old and thin.
I was in the bathroom at 9 pm, but there is no more warm water for showering. The water is extremely cold even for washing hand. The hostel is located on the way to matterhorn paradise lift. So it's good for the one who will travel up to the mountain.
Honestly, this hostel was disappointment. No laundry; the shower does not give hot water; the staff was not very knowledgeable, etc. Since this area has few hostels, lack of competition allows them to cut investment. Even knowing their poor facilities, we have no other option. Please, somebody, build a decent hostel here.
The only thing that attracts me is the price. It takes about 10 to 15 min to walk from the station, which is not near for a small villiage. There are no locks on the hostel door neither on the room door. (Fortunately everyone seems kind in Zermatt but you should always pay attention to your personal belongings.) And no power sockets are available in the room. I saw someone just put his iphone in the public area during night for recharging. (And remember that anyone outside can come in freely!)
I'm bombing your review because some poor girl was trying to check out a little early but your hostel doesn't allow check outs before 7:30 pm...I'm sure you guys know the first train leaves at 7:30 and there was a guy (20's brown hair) clearly behind the door that couldn't be bothered to check her out 5 minutes early until she burst into tears..I remember him saying something despicable like "not my problem" How awful.
It is soooo expensive for offering no linens and the condition of the showers. It is a little dirty, but not as bad as we expected. Prices are so crazy though that it is what it is. I wanna say you get what you pay for, but it is overpriced. Supply as demand though I guess.
The fact is this place is the cheapest...that's it. So if you want cheap, you got it, and got what you deserve. Not the cleanest, not nice beds, a big trough for a sink, etc. the worst part is it really isn't that cheap, just cheap for zermatt. Well, you know what you're in for
