I can't say enough good things about this place. Amazing staff (very friendly and chatty), great location, tends to have friendly (and repeat) backpackers staying there. Location's good, price is right, and the rooftop dorm isn't really "rooftop". Fantastic place all around! You'll love Mavi :)

When we got to Mavi Guesthouse, we were told that the shower was broken in our room, so the hostess had made arrangements for us to stay in the sister hostel, Mavi Onur. We were made to feel so at home. Breakfast every morning, suggestions and tips for where to go and what to do, and our host made reservations for a shuttle back to the airport for us. Great experience overall!

nice breakfast outside, comfortable beds, half of the showers were broken but the ones that did work were great. annoying signs in the kitchen about having to pay to use the kitchen, not sure how serious they are about that? ridiculous...nice social place, no lockers, internet which is not free but usually works. extremely good location right near the mosques. would stay again, its so cheap you cant not!

best location, nice and kind staff but it wasnt very clean and the rooms were very small - some of them without windows which shocked us. it is good for cheap traveling, but we have seen much nice looking hostels in Western Europe - but this is Istanbul you have to see some Orient. If they make e refreshing reconstruction the hostel will be just great!

There was a cat at the hostel and the showers were very cold.

Had a wicked stay at Mavi and decided we wouldn't stay anywhere else when returning to Istanbul. On our last night in Turkey we returned to Mavi we enjoyed the first time round so much. FANTASTIC STAFF especially when one of our group couldn't make it-Ali resold the bed...no worries is the policy :)

Great location but if you sleep in the rooftop dorm make sure to keep something on your bed at all times otherwise they will remake your bed and someone else might take it! This happened to me and I was unfortunate enough to have to sleep on the top bunk which is three bunks high... Not a pleasent experience when there's no safety rail.
