I only stayed in the Mavi for a night and it was the bast place I stayed during my whole time in Turkey. Ali is fantastic, helpful, friendly, knowledgeable about the area etc. I would strongly recommend it to anyone.

Perhaps the best hostel I have ever encountered. The roof-top terrace is a great place to enjoy a drink, and the staff could not be any cooler or more helpful. Ali assisted us with all activities and travel arrangement; and you couldn't ask for a better location.

Great social atmosphere, friendly and helpfull staff including Ali the owner who is English fluent and has the best recommendations for quality food/ transport/ activities/ tours on a budget & generally good advice for travelling safely in Turkey. Basically if your on a budget and want somewherewhere you can meet like minded travellers and socialise without it being a full on party hostel all night, this is the place. Had such a good time. One of the best hostels I've stayed in worldwide.

Ali was very helpful and friendly. All of his recommendations were fantastic! Thank for all the apple teas! Only downside was the wet bathroom floor but that was not really a big deal.

The staff at Mavi guesthouse were fantastic, they were really lovely people. That didn\'t really make up for the state that the bathrooms were constantly in though, there was a pool of water on the floor of the toilet (just the 1 toilet for the whole floor) constantly, and it stunk. They were not nice and in the time we stayed, we left the hostel to use the bathroom at restaurants etc when we could. The room we had was fine, but located under the stairs it got very noisy every night about 3am with people co

The location is perfect, the hostel staff are very helpful and sweet. Eating breakfast in the street is a fun experience. However, the bathrooms and toilets are too few and not that clean.

The most pleasant experience to be staying in a place run by people and not faceless employers.

Very nice staff !! Ali is just the nicest person in the world ! He does everything for his guests and is available 24/7. From tourist advise, to money exchange, to taxi prices, to breakfast bags when you leave early in the morning, to babysitting for some guests babies... everything is taken care off ;).

Basic but excellent hostel for the price. Renovations were being done whilst we were there to install more showers/bathrooms & to put lockers in the rooms so it is only getting better. Brilliant location, exceptional staff who went out of their way to do everything for you.

Mavi Guesthouse is a very nice little hostel. Ali the owner of the hostel is one of the most helpful people I have met. If you have any questions about Istanbul or Turkey in general he have the answer and suggestions about what to do and if he does not no he will find somebody who does. The rooms have very good beds and blankets :) despite the small size of the rooms. WC and bathrooms are also fine, but there could be more of them. Overall a good hostel with reasonable prices and good service.

Ali at Mavi Guesthouse was the perfect host - such a friendly man and happy to help with anything! Mavi is right in the middle of the old town, perfect for walking to nearby mosques and lots of restaurants in the surrounding area. I stayed in the rooftop dorm and it was a tad on the noisy side, but with earplugs I was pretty happy. Stairs are a bit rickety and bathrooms a bit on the dirty side but all in all a pretty good stay!

Stayed in a private room so can only speak for that. The room was clean but a bit small but this is expected given the location. Toilet and shower were small and need some work but were clean. Owner is nice, helpful and trustworthy.

The owner Ali was amazing! Anything you want to know about the area he knows it. The location is perfect! You are literally a wall away from the Blue Mosque, Haya Sofia, and Sultanahmet Square. All the coffee shops, ATM, and tourist things you want. I walked to the Bosphorus just following the tram line super easy and good shopping along the way. $5 fish sandwich was so good! The spice market is at the end of the tram line. A leisurely stroll from the guesthouse!

Best location in Istanbul; within walking distance to Grand Bazaar, Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Basillica Cistern and many Hamams. Ali, the owner, is one of the nicest people we have ever met. He helped with our travel plans and gave excellent advice regarding safety in Istanbul. The other staff were also very friendly and willing to help. Wifi in the hostel was a bonus, and the hostel even put on a dinner for us one night.

The opportunity to meet great people more than offsets the humble accommodations. Ali, the owner, is not only a great source of information, but he's in the middle of the fun.
