Great hostel! Patrick is really friendly and helpful, hostel is clean and has great facilities. The neighbourhood is safe to walk, even at night. The airport pickup was cheap and quick.

A fantastic gem found at Mbizi Backpackers, everything you could ask for while away from home. I was extremely impressed by the hands on approach the owner of the place had, he personally picked me up from the airport and was available for questions or requests I had. The entertainment area is fantastic, chilling with the other guests having a drink was just what I needed after a long flight. Mbizi offers great trips to Johannesburg attractions. 2 thumbs up! See you on my return trip.

Patrick has a cosy little hostel with the charm of a home away from home. Little bar at the back provides a escape with cheap drinks. Patrick helped me organize everything. In my case, Kruger pick up, and then takeaway for dinner. Importantly he offers airport pick up for a small fee. Place perfect for kruger tour start being very eastside. Last pickup that was over 2 hours later than first person! Place is not a mega hostel with all he trimmings. But this is jo'burg.

The owner really makes you feel at home there, knowing every guest by name and presenting everyone to one another.

Very nice hostel with extremely freindly and helpful staff. Very homely feel since it is the owners old family home. Not the best location but the facilities and staff more than make up for it.

My favorite place I have stayed at yet. Called Patrick from the JNB was picked up within 15mins The lodge has everything kitchen TV room, Bar is out back. The way the lodge is set up you meet the others guests easily. you can quickly become friends. Patrick is there most of the time and will call you by your name so your not just a guest. He also arranged city tour for me. I will disagree with another review there is a supermarket big one 10-15 mins walking i walked there 3x. everything clean

Nice place, but not really anything around so you need a car or book (rather expensive) tours. Some internet problems but they were solved while I was there and then it was perfect. And Wifi was free, exceptional in this country. Simple self-service breakfast.

There's just not a great hostel in Joburg. Mbizi is good if you're waiting to fly only. There's one empty pizza rest. near by & nothing else. Bar, pool table, garden, tv room, pool is good, internet 20 rand 30 minutes, wifi 10 rand though no code is needed, so you log on yourself for free. Rooms & mens dorm is good, women's is not good - 5 single beds 6 inches apart in a badly converted garage. Roommate was coughing all night because of the dust. Bags go on the floor. Bring your own food.

Good place to stay where you feel like at home. I enjoy the garden with the pool and the bar. Patrick, the owner, is really helpful and can organise tours for you. I did the Soweto tour and it was great. It's a fifteen minutes drive from the center of Joburg, but it doesn't matter because you don't have to go there (question of security). The location is good if you take the Bazbus, first one to be drop off, last one to be pick up...I save three hours compare to the first one to be pick up.

A home away from home. Seemed a long way out of Joburg, but maybe one would not be safe in Joburg! Was within walking distance of shops and felt safe doing so.
