A good party hostel but that's all it has going for it really.

I was there in dry season which is obviously the best time to go. The hostel was full, an every easy to meet people. Just sit in the pool for the day and you'll meet everyone. Bar was really good always busy. Mattresses weren't good. But not unbearable... Fairly expensive but location is good. One thing that needs some work is the staff!!! Very unfriendly and not helpful, and don't know how to smile. There is one really tall guy there working at reception which was helpful!

The hostel is well located, it's really easy to meet people, the pool area and the bar are really cool. However it's a bit noisy and the beds are not really comfy. The city itself is extremely boring.

The beds were awful! We couldn't get any sleep at all because of the disgusting gummy mattresses. Also the wet floors and icegold air-conditioning made the facilities very unpleasant. The door didn't work at all. The atmosphere at the pool area was very good though :)

As horrible as Darwin.

It's a nice hostel in the middle of the city. I only stayed one night so didn't use many of the facilities. Staff were helpful when they had time for you as it was quite busy. I stayed on the girls floor and there was only one bathroom on the other end of the floor which was a bit dirty. The only bad thing was that one of the girls in my room turned off the aircon at night so the floor was soaking in the morning and my bag was wet. Oh, and the plastic mattresses weren't great.

Quite a busy and youngish spot but the staff is available all the time, the rooms are clean, the facilities are good, the bar on the roof top serves rrefrehing beer which helps in Darwin's climate. The aircon is a bit too strong so bring a jumper for the night!

Liked the staff they were helpfull & fun! Kitchen could be bigger for the size of the hostel! Most sockets didn't work...showers at 3rd floor not so clean...

The floor of the room was always wet, really wet. It wasn't just a bit of humidity, it was water. We had 5 beds and all the matresses were torn. Better not to talk about the toilets and showers, it was really disgusting. Probably a great place to have parties and be drunk but not for a family who wish to visit Darwin.

It's a hostel that in my opinion would suit young travellers better, as there is a strong party atmosphere with music playing till about 11:30pm every day and being quite loud if you happen to be in one of the rooms closer to the bar area. The room seemed pretty clean, although we saw a bed bug and a coackroach.... All in all, a decent place to stay for one or two nights.

A good hostel to stay in to party, but also not so bad if you just want to use it as a base to explore the small city and go on tours. Kitchen could have been better stocked (there weren't many pans to cook with and the knives were blunt). The rooms were fairly clean but only had 2 useable plug sockets for a 6 bed dorm (there were 2 more but these were on the ceiling and used for the air-con and a fan - very annoying). Overall I did enjoy my stay at Melaleuca and would recommend it.

Perfect location in the City, Good tour services in house and in the neighborhood. Great place to meet people. Could have more plug sockets in rooms though.

Happy that you had a good time here - all the best with the rest of your travels!!

The location is perfect! The Transit station is across the road; surrounded by restaurants of all budget levels; the city's major attractions are either within walking distance (waterfront, Parliament House, Catholic Cathedral, Entertainment Centre) or a short drive. Coles Supermarket is also across the road; travel tours agencies within the neighbourhood; Cinema next block, ATMs. The staff are very helpful, accommodating and friendly. Internet access quite cheap. Facilities quite exceptional

Enjoyed my stay, staff were incredibly helpful, busy hostel but rooms quiet. Pools and bar great fun and good for socialising. Could use a quiet space for chilling/reading. But in general a social/fun place in the most central spot in Darwin, with the cheapest rooms.

Thank you for your review and we're very glad you enjoyed your stay!! We have at the moment opened up a movie room on the ground floor for another place other than the leisure deck to chill out. See you again soon!!

We stayed over the Australia Day weekend so the vibe was good. Made good use of the pools and the deck area The upside to the bar was the price, the downside was the opening hours appeared a little ad hoc especially as you can't bring your own alcohol on site. Place is right next to Coles and the main bars, rooms are nicely air conditioned, we called our room Antartica :-)

We found our stay at Malaleuca very enjoyable. The room while basic was quiet and good value for money, the staff were friendly and helpful and the location excellent. Our only criticisms were that the air-conditioning unit was noisy and the luggage storage area a bit scruffy.

Negative - The bed was really uncomfortable, aircon was difficult to control, and there was limited utensils in the kitchen. Positive - very secure, good swimming pool and bar area, nice for socialising, and in great location in heart of Darwin. Cheap beer.
