This is the party hostel in town, so if you don't want to party, this may not be the place for you :-). Go down the street for some quieter places - and possibly better value, too, with brekky, free laundry, and far cleaner / user-friendly kitchens with plates and utensils readily available and not for purchase or rent!

I think the other hostels could be better

Worst hostel of all time! They never clean the rooms, there was leftover food in our safes. The mattresses are out of plastic, possibly more than 10 years old and are collapsing. The whole room was smelly. Further you have to pay for plates etc. and only 1/10 of the kitchen facilities were working (cooktops). Very very poor value for money (29$/ night) 4$/ day for internet (which was damn slow) Don't go there, there are far better places for less money

If you want to be surrounded by loud obnoxious people in filthy conditions with the atmosphere and feel of a poorly maintained prison and you hate getting any sleep, you will love this place. Otherwise, go anywhere else. You won't do worse. There are plenty on the same street.

Friendly staff, great location if you want to be in the centre of the nightlife, reasonable price, air con good. Down points would be the cleanliness of room and bathrooms( more checks should be made as someone had vomited and left old chips and gross stuff in the sink) and old rickety bunks made it hard to not disturb other guests. Something's like power points near beds, individual lamps for late comers to see in the night without waking the whole room would also make a better stay.

Party Hostel, no soap or anything in the bathroom, very dirty bathroom, cockroaches in bedroom, stuff is okay but not super friendly, way overpriced for the bad comfort, beds are really old and loud when you move.

Melaleuca is a good place to stay, and central to everything in Darwin. Good experience overall. Although I found it hard to get a hold of hostel world, to chase up my flexible deposit. Better going through the operator direct next time.

The only good thing about this hostel is its location. Right in front of Coles and not too far fro; the esplanade. As for me, the only staff which is amazing is James, he is a kiwi guy and will help you for anything you might need. Otherwise, the others are quite rude and won't be helpful. Darwin is a small city and it's also the most expensive city in Australia, so if you want to book, make sure to book in advance. But if you like party hostel and don't mind about noise, then it's perfect .

I hated my stay at Melaleuca! To be fair; the facilities were good, but I hated the atmosphere. A lot of selfish people who think that the world is about them stay here and as a solo traveler that is not the kind of people you like to meet! The airco in my room was broken 2 out of 4 nights and the worse thing about the hostel besides the atmosphere was the bed. When the one in the bottom bed even stretched a leg, the whole bed was shaking.. I even had one night with motion sickness. Never again!

Kitchen is appauling! Rather pay more to eat out then stand in the kitchen to cook.

Straight up party hostel with cheap beer. Bathrooms often untidy. One guy pissed himself in his sleep in my room. Perfect hostel if you are young and looking for non-stop party/drinking.

Party central. If it's your bag to be up most of the night, then look no further. Aside from the revellers

Had a room right above the bar and music was playing loudly until very late in the night. This was annoying when having an early start for a day trip the next day.

Great location right in the centre of town, staff were friendly and helpful. Only downside was the lack of an inside communal area so of you want to stay out the sun and in the cool there is nowhere but the kitchen to retreat to. Plus with a bar on site you are forced to buy alcohol from the place which can be expensive when you are backpacking.

Good place to stay if you are up for a party! Hardly anything works in the kitchen so cooking is pretty much out of the question. Some of the staff at the desk are good but mostly quite rude and unhelpful.

Good hostel, got big lockers in the rooms and a pool/bar area. Kitchen fridges are normally rammed and difficult to find space and kitchen area can be a bit dirty after peak time, but the hostel do clean it daily so not really their fault. Otherwise good friendly atmosphere and right in the thick of town with a couple of minutes walk to everything you need.
