Very reliable and surprisingly quiet, at least when I stayed there. The hostel was refreshingly free of drunken parties of backpackers! It's a 15 minute walk to Flinders street and Federation Square. So all in all, very good value for money.

The front staff did not convey to me that AATKings touring company cannot enter the YHA street (Howard Street) and will wait on an adjacent side street. The front desk did not know where exactly at Victoria Market the "Hop-on-off" free bus for visiting tourist stop is - well, let them know that it is west of the Victoria Market about 500 feet on the south side of Peel or Peel y street in front of the west parking lot of the same market and the first bus stopping there is at 10:35AM

For me, the location was a bit too far out. There seems to be always a que at Reception, so you find yourself waiting in line constantly even to ask a quick question. Seems to be a lot of older people here as well as young. Rooms are very small and I wasnt able to plug my phone in to charge because everyone was using the power points. Had the top bunk which was even more annoying. $8 for a lock plus 37 for room, adds up quickly. Only stayed 1 night and moved to St Kilda Base.
