The location is perfect, the staff are friendly, and the owners are even more friendly! They know all the best spots to hang out whether you want to be a typical tourist or you want to blend in and go to the local hang out spots (thanks Tulio!). The reception staff were also very friendly especially Gabby who always went out of her way to help me out. The bar downstairs is a great meeting spot before a night out!! They also offer great activities through the hostel + they have free wifi!!!

Great atmosphere and staff at Yellow Mellow. Was looking for a hostel to meet people and party and that was what we found, stayed much longer than we planned! Plenty of opportunity to relax and have downtime when needed. Short walk to Copacabana beach. Bar staff always very friendly and ready to chat. Receptionists very accommodating...

Top marks for Mellow Yellow. They made my stay in Rio extremely memorable. The hostel is in a great location and the staff were extremely helpful with directions and advice. I real party atmosphere in the hostel bar every night!

The bar is dangerous. Too many `early nights´ were spent until late being forced to drink by the staff.... Never change a thing, the best hostel we have stayed in so far.

I've been travelling a few times and this is by far the best place I've stayed, not because of the rooms or bathrooms (which are nice, but fairly standard), but because of the people that work there. They are all great fun, and incredibly helpful. They want to be in Rio and having fun which makes it impossible not to enjoy yourself as well. If you want to do a tour they'll sort out a great one, and if you want the Rio nightlife there's nowhere better. The most fun I've ever had in a hostel.

This hostel is in a great location, staff are friendly and breakfast is good.the rooms are clean with good space and air con.only issue is the bathrooms could be cleaned more often-they get a bit grubby after a while.overall great hostel and cheap drinks in the bar!!

Very basic, but much better than many other hostels. Location is excellent just 3 blocks from Copacabana beach. Staff were mostly helpful and spoke English, albeit keen for you to partake in their own activities. The bar is dull but serves its purpose and breakfast was basic.

Enjoyed my time here, close to Copacabana beach and the Metro, with cafes and restaurants in the local area that were easy to get to. Rooms vary greatly in quality from plesant enough to pretty dissapointing, so make sure that you don't get one of the bad ones... Staff tried to give advice on transport etc, and for the most part were helpfull. Did at one point, however, recieve some incorrect advice on getting to the airport that almost made me late for a flight, so double check!

Mellow Yellow is such an amazing hostel. Closer to the beach /subway station/ bus stop. The staff over there are very educated / attentive specially about give clues to the guest ( Places to visit, party, etc.) . The breakfast are amazing and the bar is a great area to chillout, drinking cheap beers and meet people. .For sure one of the best hostel as i stayed (cheap / good). When i come back to Rio for sure i'll stay at Mellow Yellow again.

Its my 4th year staying at this hostel so I guess that tells you something. Atmosphere, staff and location is worth coming back for. I like the new villa you've moved the hostel to, it's more clean and cozy than the massive hostel building you had before. Mellow Yellow is a place were you make new friends with the staff, locals and tourists. Great happenings every night after caiperinas in the bar (closes midnight) and if you stay in The Leblon-room you get a balcony with a hammock to relax in.

I've spent two days in Mellow Yellow and it was an amazing experience. I was looking for a party hostel and that's what I exactly found when I arrived there. They always recommend you to go to the good parties in Rio, and the bar is cool, with a very nice staff. Another very good point is breakfest. I've been in some hostels before and I really can say that they have the best breakfest for a hostel, it really likes as a good hotel breakfest!

The best hostel I have stayed in. Great Staff - I left my phone in the bar (after too many caprinia's) they found it and have locked it up until I can collect it! Nothing was too much trouble. Love Mellow Yellow.

When I first arrived they told me they had a new staff person who hasn't put in my reservation from hostel world therefore overbooking. The front desk lady was kind enough to give me her staff bed. However, there were no lockers to keep my valuables when staying in the staff room. The staff room was really messy and dirty. They only have me a $2.50 discount for the two nights I stayed in the staff room. The atmosphere was sub par compared to the other 4 hostels I stayed in.

We stayed in Mellow Yellow for one night in Rio on our way to Ilha Grande and decided to go back to spend our 4 last nights in Rio there. The staff is just amazing, we felt so comfortable and welcomed there. We even miss them now that we're back home. They are awesome! We love them!
