When I first arrived they told me they had a new staff person who hasn't put in my reservation from hostel world therefore overbooking. The front desk lady was kind enough to give me her staff bed. However, there were no lockers to keep my valuables when staying in the staff room. The staff room was really messy and dirty. They only have me a $2.50 discount for the two nights I stayed in the staff room. The atmosphere was sub par compared to the other 4 hostels I stayed in.

Great hostel in great location, really friendly staff at reception, the bar and the owners are always around to have a beer with too. One of the owners Mike (dodgy hair but nice guy) brought few of us out for sushi and beers on last night which was nice to have bit of local knowledge on where to go. Loads of activities during day and at night and perfect place to stay if you're travelling alone!

We stayed in Mellow Yellow for one night in Rio on our way to Ilha Grande and decided to go back to spend our 4 last nights in Rio there. The staff is just amazing, we felt so comfortable and welcomed there. We even miss them now that we're back home. They are awesome! We love them!

I stayed an extension new room - used to be a garage but there was no locker, the room didn't clean while I was staying so the floor was quite dusty. The toilets were so small and the showers were always dirty. Breakfast is not good either - they should make boiled eggs instead scramble eggs! The hostel is in a good area - 5 minutes down the road to the beach. Safe and easy get around. The staffs are nice and helpful. I'd recommend it if you don't really care about cleaning things!

I think it is disgusting the amount we were charged and what we recieved. I will not be reccomending this hostel and I will be creating bad word of mouth. I think the hostel owner should be ashamed. Very poor.

Hostel with its own special character. Great bartender who likes to serve you fast :) (sorry i forgot your name).. Nelly and Debby did well too. Good location, close to the beach and metro station. Atmosphere is good if you want to party too.

Mellow Yellow are all about the cash and not about the people who are travelling. They organise no activities and if they do it is very vague. The bar is slow and they basically only have two drink choices. The staff while some are nice people, the management are just trying to suck as much money they can off you and provide nothing in return. The facilities are terrible. There is never hot water and only three showers to begin with. You can barely squeeze into the toilets.

great hostel, the location of the hostel is wonderful and very close to the beach, the staff was very helpful especially the little girl gaby who works in the reception always always trying to help us no matter how many questions we asked her, the best part of the hostel is the bar they have, stayed open very late and the owner stayed drinking all night with the guests and always making you feel like you were at home, very nicely cleaned which was nice, over all great place will come back again

The hostel rooms are in very bad condition. In it the walls has stains and poor ilumination. The pillows had stains matching with the shits(who also had holes). They charge extra for the towells. The common areas were ok. The staff really tries to make your steady comfortable. Overall: A bit expensive having in mind the conditions of the rooms. However, the staff reallly effort. I don´t believe i host again in a future journey.

A really nice place, where can feel home soon. I really enjoyed my time there! The location is right in Copacabana, easy walk to the beach or Ipanema. Restaurants and shops just around the block. I was travelling alone and it was very easy to meet people at the bar or around the common area. Drink a beer with the owner and he'll will tell you unbelievably interesting stories!

The place is well decorated, good location, and has good bar. The staff need a bit of training though.

I can only say that we couldn't stay at the hostel cause they made a mistake and changed our reservation. We were four people, we booked a 4-bed dorm ensuite, but when we arrived there they had reserved a 6-bed dorm without a bathroom. They couldn't change it cause they didn't have any more rooms available so we had to look for another hostel, it was late at night we were just arriving in Rio, so we were tired, hungry, and upset. It was a really bad experience. Luckily, we found a good hostel!

We stayed here over New Year and enjoyed its excellent location. For a small hostel Mellow Yellow has a great atmosphere - there were many excellent staff and a great bar. My only complaint is that the hostel had insufficient bathroom facilities for the number of guests and they were cleaned too infrequently.
