Not what I expected but pleasant none the less. As a solo travler and a female I was slightly worried however after arriving i realized I had no reason to be and the staf were very accommodating.

We stayed for 3 nights and they were all great experiences at Meramees. The staff is very helpful and we were able to set up a tour of Giza directly through them, making it very convenient. The location is great and close to a lot of restaurants and shops. I would recommend this hostel to anybody staying in Cairo.

The staff at Meramees are amazing, very friendly and helpful. I've had some difficulties in Egypt and this trip could have been a disaster if not for the support of the people here. Someone was available and willing to help me every step of the way, even when my train to Aswan got disrupted. You can't go wrong staying here.

Helpful and friendly staff to assist with anything you might need. I was only in Egypt for a few days and they assisted in setting up a customised tour to cover everything I wanted to visit from Cairo to Aswan!

We stayed in Meramees Hostel for 5 nights. The hostel is in a old building but it is clean and that is what is important. The staff was really good and friendly. It is also female friendly. We booked a trips through them. We booked the Giza trip and it was cheap but of course the take you to some places that want your money but i didn't feel pressured. The desert trip was perfect ask for Sam as a guide. Then the Nile cruise was cheap and nice for a organized trip.

This hostel is one of the best I have ever been to. Safe, secure, great facilities, and wonderful staff! Ahmed, Mustafa, Eman, and Mustafa were great! I needed to buy a computer in Cairo for work and Ahmed helped me arrange it. My friend and I then booked a tour of southern Egypt and Mustafa was a huge help with getting us a great deal. They are all honest, friendly, hard working, and professional. I could not have asked for better people to meet at a hostel!

We stayed at the Meramees Hostel for three nights in March 2013. The hostel is in an excellent location in downtown Cairo, within easy walking distance to the Egyptian Museum. There are many options for food and drinks nearby. The staff is very friendly, and the hostel is fairly clean and quite safe. A simple breakfast is provided. Our room (unexpectedly) had a shower / sink room inside it, although the lights did not work in that area. For around $17 a night, it's definitely a good deal.

During my stay in Egypt, I returned to this hostel three times. It has a very central location, right near Tahrir Square, the Egypt Museum, and many good restaurants and bars. For about 11$ I received a private room with a balcony, and free breakfast in the morning. The staff will help you with anything, from train bookings, to tours, to anything else. When my computer broke they took me right away to get it fixed, making sure that I was treated fairly. I'd recommend this hostel to anyone.

The Meramees Hostel is centrally located in downtown Cairo; it is near Tahrir Square, but since it rests on a side street, there is little to no trouble with protests. The staff are all extremely pleasant and speak English. They are very helpful in finding transportation and giving you security tips. They are also honest with their prices, which is a breath of fresh air in Cairo. Finally, the plumbing all works, the rooms are clean, there is air conditioning, and breakfast is included. Fantastic

Meramees was great. The location is near to the main square and has plenty of food around it. The staff are particularly helpful and will answer any questions. The rooms are were clean and had nice balconies. The showers were hot and plenty of water pressure. Breakfast was simple but hit the spot. The other guests on this stay were also very pleasant. Overall, I very much enjoyed my stay, and if I come back to Egypt, would look to stay here again.

I was told by many not to travel to Egypt, however, I never once felt any problems...I was greeted at the airport, taken to the hostel, checked-in, and then Mustafa proceeded to plan my ENTIRE 2-week itinerary for all of Egypt and Jordan, including a SCUBA course in the Red Sea. It has been an amazing experience all thanks to the Meramees Hostel! Shokran!

Different from what's described in the international news, it's quite safe to travel in Egypt now. I've been to 13 countries and most of the time lived in hostels. Meramees is a top hostel I ever stayed in. Their hospitality and friendliness far exceeds customers' expectation for hostels and even some 4 star or 5 star hotels. I want to thank Mohamed for his help and Sherif for the time he spent chatting and hanging out together with me. The rest of the team are also very nice and helpful!

Though we arrived at 2:30am the airport pickup was good. We didn't have to search for the one who was picking us up. The staff was very helpfull, with planning trips, explaining where to get good food and about how to get to places. The staff speaks English really well. Breakfast was very good. The double room is really big and clean as well. Really a place to come back. The hotel is located in the center of Cairo close to 2 metro stations.
