I paid quite a lot to stay in this hostel but that's because it was during New Year holidays so that's fair enough. Beds were very comfy when compared to other hostels'. Breakfasts were quite good. One main serious problem was the wi-fi, which seriously needed an improvement. It was the slowest hostel/hotel wi-fi that I've ever used. It also usually automatically disconnected itself. That many people staying there and using wi-fi at the same time shouldn't be an excuse. It's a hostel/hotel.
Stayed here over NYE, was not impressed. Booked 5 bed dorm ended up in 6. No wifi in rooms, it frequently dropped out in lobby, making it impossible to Skype. Shower was filthy, drain was blocked so it over flowed, and toilet ran out of paper. Awful atmosphere unless you enjoy getting started at by old Eastern European men. Smoking in stairwell was gross. 72 stairs to reception. Broken lift. Noisy. Plus was close to metro and breakfast. Rip off. Wouldn't recommend.
Bathrooms all had bad sewage smell or drain issues. Maintenance on public and dorm bathrooms would go a long way to making them feel cleaner. The staff were ok. I checked in during a busy time but there still should have been information given such as maps or tour offers. Wifi was terrible. It constantly cut out and was slow when it worked. Only real positive for this hostel was the location next to Mehringdamm Station. Try booking elsewhere if you appreciate comfort and hygienic facilities.
