The bathroom was really clean, and if you don't watch at the bedroom's wall the room was also clean. The staff is not friendly at all. Each time I had a question I felt like I was bother them.

The room had a weird smell when we went in. After the air was one it cleared out though.

Great hostel! Nice location, good facilities and amazing staff. Will definitely stay in Ming Courtyard next time when I go to Beijing!

The Ming Courtyard is definitely off the main tourist track. The subway is easy to navigate so for the price, the location is a compromise we were willing to make. As a whole the staff weren't particularly friendly, the premises weren't very clean and the facilities were basic. We enjoyed out stay all the same. You definitely get what you pay for.

Staff could speak only basic English, no lockers inside the room and anyway you have to pay 1yuan EVERY time you open one (I know is very little but it was annoying, especially if you forgot something and had to open it again), the dorm was large but somehow lacked any sort of ventilation so it could get very warm.... the location is great though and the courtyard is a nice place to hang out with other travelers.

This place is cheap but quite ok. I stayed in a 12 bed room which was a little far from the bathrooms but not a big problem. Would probably go back again.

great hostel in an excellent location. The hostel is located in the hutong area which is great for seeing how the beijing locals live and work. The facilities are kept clean and the beds are comfortable. Staff speak basic english but are helpful to their best ability. The courtyard is great to relax and unwind in and has a great atmosphere. Excellent place for meeting people. Some great local eats within walking distance and subway only a short walk. Would stay here again.

nice hotel. great courtyard when its hot. beds however are not changed regularly when staying for more than a few days. bathrooms are very clean. staff are nice. not many facilities such as bar/social area. information provided about tourist sites in Beijing, as well as tours.

We arrived quite late only to find that they had lost out booking and that everything was full. However we wouldn't leave and somehow the guy found a bed in the end.. The 10 bed dorm was almost empty though! The staff was generally unhelpful and rude.. So sad considering the very charming hostel.

The hostel was pretty okay. The location is great, just 5 minutes from the metro station. The staff however was not too friendly, perhaps due to their limited english language skills. If you want to stay another night, you have to pay 10 Yuan more than if you book online unless you have a reservation. The doorms are basic but good, facilities are basic but rather clean for chinese standards. There is a PC with internet connection and a headset for skyping. The courtyard is really beautiful.

Carpets in the room are old and quite stained. The staff are generally quite rude. The street that the hostel is on floods when it rains and the water is quite deep and so you can't get back without getting drenched. People should be warned that this is the case as the water flow is quite fast and it's really dangerous, especially as the locals take the tops off the drains and people could fall in!

Okay, the staff wasn't super welcoming. It's true. But everything else was great. This hostel did not disappoint. Had an awesome time in Beijing, not in a small part thanks to The Courtyard.

great place. very nice patio to hang out.

Good place to stay, good location and pretty clean. Most staff members are friendly and helpful except one who is pretty rude! I'll let you figure out which one! Beds are REALLY comfortable with super clean white sheets. Showers could do with a bit of a scrub. There is no kitchen facilities so you can't cook (They have a little restaurant) but the staff let us put things in the restaurant fridge but it was a bit of a pain having to ask them for our stuff whenever we needed it.

Nice open area sociable areas, shame the hostel decided to prioritize beds over food or drink. The hostel is nice bathroom was nice. BUT don't get a 4 bed dorm!! There are no windows and only one light and an air vent (Really doesn't help cool the room down!)

the hostel is super nice, it has a huge beautiful courtyard where it´s pleasant to hang out. another good thing was that there were many toilets and showers so we never had to wait in line. the only bad thing was that there was so much noise every night which made it almost impossible to sleep. Besides from that; the only thing that is really mising in this hostel is a guest kitchen!

The sunny courtyard is definitely the highlight of the hostel, great for lounging in the sun.

It's a good place to stay. But it's hard to find the guesthouse, you need to ask around before can get it.

Stayed for around 10 days, definitely recommend it. Nice location, lots of foods and bodegas around (a new bar just opened around the corner), clean and neat room, a very nice courtyard and a cute dog, staff are polite and helpful. A good budget choice in DongCheng. I stayed in 4 hostels in Beijing and I'd say this is the best I've tried among the 4.

The staff has very poor English and was not always helpful in finding solutions (ie for storing valuables as all of the provided locker were occupied). Maps had to be paid for; only nad copy of Beijing's subway was provided for free. Rooms in the main building were quite noisy due to the doors of the toilet and shower room which were always kept open. There was no wifi in the rooms, only in the common areas.
