The nicest back packers I have ever stayed in. The owners are really lovely, the beachside home is lovely and the relatively small number of rooms means a more Personal relationship with other guests. Hope to get back here one day. Thanks for a very comfortable stay.

If you're the kind of person who doesn't need a huge party hostel and you might want to stay on the beach in a suburb instead of in a building in a city, then you should stay here. Besides being a 17 minute walk to the train station and a 30 minute ride to the city, this hostel is basically perfect. It's by far the cleanest hostel I've ever stayed in. They have a guitar to play, everything you could ever need in a kitchen, dvds to watch, awesome owners and staff. Can't say enough about my stay.

Moana Lodge was outstanding! Helen and John, the owners, were very welcoming, caring and supportive of their guests. They were incredible people who actually valued and tried to get to know their guests. The location, facility and owners ensured that we had a very positive experience during our two day stay at the Lodge. I wish we could have stayed there longer. A real gem! The views and sunsets were amazing! I highly recommended this lodge.

nice smallish hostel out of the city but it has a nicer feel to the place than some of the big city hostels where its all about sell sell sell and there is so many people you dont get to meet anyone its good place to chill out on the water and relax for a few days

I think any master chef would be happy to cook in Moana Lodge kitchen!. Ihave never seen such a well stocked kitchen in all my years of independent travel. The welcome you have there is second to none and the knowledge the owners have of the area is tremendous and they also try to support local independent businesses. As for the location of the hostel, well its subliime what ever the weather, just cross the road from the sea, you hear the sea when you lay in your bed at night.

This hostel is like a 3 star hotel, except for the fact that you're sharing a room (if you book dorm). In particular, Sophie helped us with lots of info, made us feel really welcome and ensured that we had everything that would help us have a great stay. All the facilities were modern and in excellent order, and the lodge is full of character with a beautiful window in the lounge overlooking the bay.
