Cute little lodge. Nice guy that runs the place and quite helpful. The private room we had was oddly small though. We booked a double room and for some reason got an extra single bed in the room but no floor space for our luggage so we ended up using the spare bed to put all our stuff on. Good kitchen though. Nice facilities. Good number of bathrooms and private showers. Bit of a drive out of central city Wellington, but fine of you have a car :)

We really enjoyed our stay at Mona Lodge, it is right on the beach front in cute Plimmerton. It's about a 10-15 minute walk to the main street of Plimmerton (along the beach front), where the station is, and then a 30 minute train journey into Wellington, so it is quite out of the way if you are only wanting to spend time in Wellington. However, the actual hostel is very beautiful, and it feels more like a B&B than a hostel. A lovely, quiet and relaxed hostel.

For all non party animals this is a quiet, clean relaxing hostel with very helpful staff, going to sleep with the sound of the waves and waking to gaze over the beach was a great exercise in de-stressing. Thoroughly recommended and only a short train trip to the center of Wellington

Just about the best place we have stayed on our trip. The views over the bay were to die for, while the place was spotlessly clean. Kitchen and other facilities were splendid and Danny the manager couldn't have been more helpful. It is a little out of the city, but on a great train line in - if you're there over a weekend, check out the three day train ticket. Would absolutely go back here again.

An excellent, clean, well facilitated, welcoming hostel. I don't think you could ask for much more from a hostel than this. A perfect location for access to Wellington or to enjoy Plimmerton itself. Great views. A good atmosphere with well equipped common area's. The shared facilities are clean and allow privacy with individual lockable shower rooms. Danny the manager was more than helpful and accomodating making us always feel welcome. Thanks again - from the Sevens Tennis Players :)

No lockers of any kind, and a very far drive from Wellington. However, it's on the beach so it is still a nice escape from the city. I would've enjoyed my stay if i hadn't had such an issue with the staff. I can't remember the owner's name, but after we checked out and attempted to ask for help with getting information about Tongariro, he couldn't be bothered to do anything for us. Wouldn't even give us extra WiFi to try to figure it out. Had to spend a fortune on a phone call instead.

Great seaside location. 20min drive from Wellington. Friendly and helpful staff. Cleanest hostel we have seen. Kitchen has great facilities. Plenty of bathrooms. Very comfortable. Wish we could have stayed longer. Lovely old two storey timber house.

Very much enjoyed our stay at Moana Lodge. I was here 10 years ago, during my previous trip to NZ, and the lodge maintained its character.

What a fantastic place! Open your ocean side room window and listen to the waves! Wish we could have stayed longer, so clean, comfortable and relaxing. Definatley one of the best places we stayed during our entire trip.
