Great inexpensive place to stay in Mombasa! Right by Nyali beach, lots of shops and fun things to do. The owner is awesome and the place has tons of great amenities (pool, cheap and tasty food, free wi-fi, book exchange, etc. etc.) and is filled with interesting people. One thing to note is that the breakfast is cheap and tasty, but not included. But, I definitely recommend it!!

nice staff, great location (close to beach, shopping mall and public transport), pretty clean, awesome facilities (e.g. pool, bar, comfy lounge (in- and outdoor), tv room, do-it-yourself-kitchen, restaurant) and laid back atmosphere thx to cool but professional management.

The pool was great given the high humidity and temperatures. Facilities were good though hot water was not readily available. Food and drinks offered by the hostel were good value though more effort could have been made to provide a social atmosphere as few nights out of even local tourist attractions were advertised in the accommodation. Overall good value and close to beach and major transport.

Mombasa Backpackers is one of the coolest spots I've ever been to traveling around Kenya. Whether you're a volunteer stuck in the bush or just traveling around the country, this place is a good breather. I really enjoyed it for the atmosphere as it's real chill and people with all sorts of experiences, stories, and character to hang out with. Swimming pool is so clutch, especially when you've been dragging bags around or stuck out in the middle of nowhere. Food is good and drinks are cold!

Amazing place, great vibe, good bar, sweet swimming pool, delicious food, good staff, large room, lots of space and lockers, great value for money. Beware of unfulfilled promises though, breakfast is NOT included. There aren't really any cooking facilities (but there's a fridge). And no hot showers, although the weather is nice enough. But I would definitely recommend it.

I only stayed at the Mombasa Backpackers for 1 night before starting a volunteer project, however it seemed that lots of people were staying there for much longer. I timed it well with a BBQ happening on the Friday night. There is a pool and the facilities seemed good (not that I used all of them). Everyone was very chilled and friendly, didn't feel like I was only there 1 night, the manager is very accommodating. No mozzie nets though, so get that repellant out, and lots of it.

had a great time in mombasa backpackers, although it's the place where u unintentionally do things you'd never do at home. i was lucky enough to get a tattoo at the hostel, get to know great people and get incredibly wasted while playing margarita pong. the owner, david, is great - he makes sure everybody has a good time. what happens in mombasa backpackers...

As a female travelling alone around Kenya, I had the opportunity to stay in many hostels on the coast and Msa Backpackers was the best of 'em all. The premises is big but cosy due to the fantastic set up. It has many common areas, nice big secure dorms with lockers, fair priced meals and drinks. It has a swimming pool and a big garden, it’s next to a western-like shopping centre and many restaurants. Always full of interesting people passing through. Tot de volgende, David! ;)

Mombassa Backpackers was our favourite stop on a trip that took us from Addis Ababa to Zanzibar. The backpackers is located right next to a beautiful swimming beach and has its own well maintained pool as well. There is new, well resourced shopping centre in short walking distance. The rooms and grounds at the backpackers are excellent, the staff friendly and helpful and the guests a lively bunch. There is a real atmosphere of family at the place and lots of fun to be had. Go there, stay there!

Facilities were not the best, need maintenance. Showers dirty, especially near the pool. No running water in one bathroom. Pool needed a clean. Food and service at the bar was exceptionally brilliant. Yvonne was very helpful and made the place a great place to stay. Very relaxing atmosphere.

one word: pool! I've never seen a backpackers hostel with a swimming pool (and it's clean), pretty awesome! cold beer + pool + beautiful weather = best thing ever. The hostel has wifi (fast), great chef, tv with cable & big dvd collection, nintendo wii, european beer, close to the beach, very safe neighbourhood, security lockers can fit a whole backpack in them, and Dave the owner is a great guy (from Peru) he's like a walking talking lonely planet guide. To sum it up... A+ will return.
