The environment are good and the room and toilet is clean. However the kitchen shouldnt near the living hall. Internet is free to use.

Good stay for one night in Franz Josef. The hostel had two kitchens and a big 'social' area, although the place did not seem too social. There is no WiFi but they do have two computers for internet access. Our room was fine although the heat turned off during the night. The lady working at reception was very friendly and cheerful.

We only stayed one night in the Montrose. Free internet on the computers at first seems good but the few computers are always taken. Rooms are ok and cleanliness was good while we were there. The place seems a bit claustrophobic and lacking in character. Not bad but wouldn't want to stay for very long.

This hostel is located a 2min walk from the main road and shops. It's got a huge living room with TV, two computers with free internet (20min limit if others are waiting), and a decent kitchen with three places to cook and two large fridges. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are airy with windows, and bright. Bathrooms are a bit small (ie. you have to straddle the toilet so you can get out of the door) and there's only 2 on the top floor, though there can be 15-20 ppl on that floor.

Good hostel close to everything one could need in Franz Josef (the town is tiny). It was clean but there were no lockers in the rooms, no wifi, and only one computer to use for their free internet.

The hostel is ok, nice character, good staff. Big TV in the common room and free movies to hire. Interesting how the common room and the kitchen coexist. But the free internet is a joke, there is only one computer for everybody to share, and no wi-fi. And I wouldn't count too much on the laundry facilities, the wash is done only with cold water, which is a shame, and the dryer didn't do the job well.

The bathroom was not very clean. No handwash available and the hand towel was next to the toilet which isnt very hygienic. Room was good.

Love that they were the only ones that had free internet, but naturally, free means an abuse by other guests. :( Still, the staff were very accommodating and friendly. It's right in the heart of Franz Joseph village so everything was within walking distance.

The most comfortable bed I have slept in since I arrived in New Zealand. Room was very confortable for a short stay and the amenity was well organised, washing, cooking, internet ect. I would certainly recommend it.

The atmosphere was fun and friendly, with a big common room where all guests could watch TV together. Staff were friendly, and very helpful, and it was evident that the kitchen and bathrooms were cleaned on a daily basis.

Excellent and very caring service from what I think was the manager. My son was sick and he went beyond the call of duty to help us. Would definitely recommend.

The staff seemed a bit unrelaxed, but was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was not great, but you can find everything you need in a hostel. The free wifi was good.

The 'free' internet would be helpful if there was a time limit. As there were only two computers and some people stayed on for hours not allowing other guests to use it.

The free internet was not working properly for both days I stayed there, and the matrasses are extremely thin - other than that I have no comments. The common room is very big, which is good for socializing. Two kitchens, but in each kitchen only 1 or 2 people can cook at a time, dus to the size and the lack of appliances.
