About Musicology Hostel

In the next few paragraphs we are supposed to try and "sell" our hostel to you. Tell you things like that we are the newest, coolest and friendliest hostel in Bogota if not Colombia. That our beautiful colonial house has 2 patios, a garden and hammocks to chill out. That you get a free continental breakfast, free internet, including Wi-Fi, free bed sheets, free safe deposit boxes big enough for your backpack, hot water with strong pressure 24h, that we have extra wide beds with best spring mattresses in the market, blankets like your mama will leave on your bed at home, English speaking staff with 24h reception, Free salsa classes every Thursday, Security cameras and 2 buzzer doors for your security, Best bar in the city (well, maybe we exaggerate a little …:-), Cable TV, Huge collection of DVD's, Sony play station with many games, IPod and MP3 docking station in all bathrooms so you can listen to your favorite music while……….., IPod charging station with built in card reader, connected to one of the public computer, for easy transfer of files and photos, to and from your camera/Ipod, Charging corner for all kinds of music players, MP3's and cell phones, Laundry services, the biggest music collection in S. America!!!!, In hostel private Spanish teacher, Recycle bins for all types of waste, Free luggage storage, Free local phone calls, Free use of the hostel after checkout including showers and internet, Free and complete travel information about Bogota and the area., Complete guide to Bogota nightlife including underground parties, Free booking for onward hostels of your choice, Currency exchange, Free bus ticket booking and delivery to the hostel (some bus companies charge for the delivery), Free taxi booking, No curfew, no lockout, we serve dinner every night so we can all eat together, have a restaurant and we can go on and on.
However, we would like to use this space to sell our philosophy and beliefs more than our hostel. As U can see on our logo we have the words Eco aware and social active written on it. These are not just nice slogans for us but a way of life. Being an easy going party hostel by definition means that we are aware of the importance of parting, and hard, after all hey, what more do we need in life? The answer is a lot of partying but with a little bit of conscience and awareness..
There is much more to travelling than just staying at a hostel who offers you all these great services and having a great party every night. As travelers, the moment we left our home country we have in a way made the entire world part of our life now. We can no longer ignore the situation in Zimbabwe, the hunger in Brazil, the genocide in Darfur, cutting down the rainforest, pollution, global heating and unfortunately the list is endless. Yes we know, we all have that feeling that we, the small individual cannot do anything about these big issues but as Obama said on his election campaign, YES WE CAN!
We here in Musicology have been lucky to have such a beautiful country as Colombia host us and share its social and cultural secrets with us. However, we cannot only receive, we need to give too. We are helping poor families in our neighborhood with basic food supplies financed from our money and donations travelers leave for this cause. We recycle!! All wood used in the building of the hostel, from the bunk beds to the bar and reception, is wood from demolition. Not a single tree ended up as furniture because of us. We are sponsoring on a monthly basis an orphan child in Colombia (www.sos-childrensvillages.org). It takes only $1 a day to change a Childs life (less than a bottle of beer) and there is still so much more we can do. By staying in our guesthouse you are directly helping all these causes because part of all income is set a side for these matters.
Don't get us wrong. Even if you don't stay with us, we will still continue financing these projects and looking for new ways we can contribute as these are our principals and beliefs in life and they are MUCH more important than a few more or few less guests in our house. However, together with you we can do much more than we can alone.
So please come on in and let us let the music rock your soul!!!
