An excellent family run hostel with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and efficient front desk where all guests are given plenty of advice on the city. It's in a great location near the tram connections to the major sites of interest, local izakayas and the rooms are clean, spacious and private. The lounge area has a kitchen and Wifi connection with Japanese style seating area for guests to mingle, drawing an variety of international travellers, for a great atmosphere. Highly recommended!
Grate place to stay. Place looks like hotel adapted to hostel. We had a ensuite room, really big. Very nice and HLEPFUL staf, Definitely one of the best places we stayed during our Japan trip. Weather was perfect as well. Great atmposphere and facilities. Not the newest interior but very well maintained and that makes the trick - great Japanese experience. And the city is astonishing, not very big, very beautiful, may placese to see, great and sad history.
I found the Hostel a delightful place to stay and the staff were not only friendly but genuinely interested in their visitors. I would love to go back there. I am 72 and did not feel at all out of place with youngsters; there was a range of ages staying there and a truly international flavour.

Helpful staff. Lots of recommendations of tourist attractions and local eatery's in foyer. Great walking guide with local. Kitchen and dining amazingly clean & organized. Felt happy to cook and eat a meal in there. Toilets and showers also very clean. Dorm was a little cramped but that's only if you're getting picky! Would go back in a heartbeat! Loved it!
Helpful staff that helped me book the Gunkanjima cruise. The rooms can be pretty high up and the stairs a little steep though, which could be difficult for some people. Otherwise, amazing hostel!
Nice clean hostel with friendly staff and good common room. The dorms are average but clean.
I arrived after usual check in time because of late ferries. Due to Internet problems staff hadn't received my booking, BUT they came all the way back, fairly late and dark at night, pronto, to let me in and make me feel welcome. That's above and beyond! Such a great place that I'm taking my family to stay here when they come in a few weeks.
The staff were really helpful on where to go and what to do and I liked the common room a lot.
Bed was ok, wood carvings and Tatami mats added style to the bedroom. Location near the spectacle bridge, Dejima island and chinatown makes it a good location. I was happy with the maps they provided on the spot. My roommates were quiet and i could sleep day and/or night. Sink was located in a funny place (in the hallway). Good for brushing your teeth late at night. I went out to a Cocktail one shot bar in a sidestreet. It had ten stools and looked very nice with lots of sprits. Campai!
Fantastic place to stay. Lots of valuable information about the area, helpful staff etc. First experience in a dorm and I found it to be clean, safe and comfortable etc. Nice common areas with TV, DVDs, well equipped kitchen. Also, very competitive and reasonable pricing. Location wise, it is fantastic. It is 6min by tram/street car from Nagasaki Station, although I found it to be quite an easy walk also.
This is an amazing hostel all around and I would recommend it to anyone. The staff did everything to make our stay extremely enjoyable from holding our luggage before and after our stay to even making day trip bookings on our behalf. It has the amenities and comforts of home and with a friendly atmosphere and readily available area information. This hostel goes above and beyond for it's guests.
You get what you pay for. The location is excellent!
ideal location, great free walking tour and very helpful map. staff could be a bit more cheerful and hostel could do with a makeover, but overall definitely a good place to stay.
The owner is a considerate and caring person who is interested in the welfare of his guests.
While Akari was very clean some parts of it are in need of a bit of an update. The kitchen and common room while cosy, were a bit cramped. The staff were very friendly and helpful though - information on the area and what to do in Nagasaki was great!
good location within a walking distance of an awesome izakaya district and tram line. I was lucky to attend a sake party at the hostel kitchen. I wish they hostels like in Japan everywhere else in the world.
Staff was quite friendly and nice. Location was a bit off from where we wanted to go but it wasn't too much of a hassle getting to where we wanted to go. Overall a nice experience.
I thought that this was a great hostle that wasn't too hard to find. It was in a nice quiet part of town and didn't have a curfew which was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well.
The only thing I could complain about is that there only are security lockers on the 1st floor. Good location, nice staff and everything is nice and clean.
