We went in May which I know is the off season. But when we arrived it was like the movie Hostle (scary). We could have stayed for free and no one would have known. We heard noises coming from a closed and decided to knock. It wasnt the manager but one of the employees. He said that he couldn\'t really do anything but show us around but the managers will be back by 11pm and we can ask questions then (it was 5pm). The room was freezing. We had to leave and find a new hostle. Dont go here

At night was quite hard to find the place...should have some signal... The towels should be given for free.

Jo & Darren were great hosts. Really good facilities provided, though the bunk beds didn't provide the best nights sleep. Would still definitely recommend though.

The Staff were extremely friendly and ready to get you the best rates for shuttles to the Alpine Crossing and renting gear. Nice atmosphere, nice location. I highly recommend this hostel to anyone wanting to visit Tongariro National Park.

Had a great weekend with awesome service from the staff. I didn't expect such a good hostel for this cheap price. Great!

This hostel is in a great location if you are in the area to do the crossing. The staff are nice and very casual. The facilities were pretty old and worn but overall the place was really clean, which impressed me the most about that place. It was super cheap too which would definitely make me stay there again. Great value

I quite liked this place. I had a single room, basic but comfy with basin and mirror. Most people were there for the Tongariro crossing, so I had the place to myself in the morning after they'd left! Connected to a pub but you can't hear it from the rooms, they're quiet. Internet not available, problem with the computer? Getting that fixed would be brilliant. Good guest kitchen, people do clean up fairly well. I had no issue with this place, staff were nice, only a short drive to the mountains.

The kitchen was just okay for basic food. The showers sometimes is not hot enough. But the room was spacious and comfortable. It had been raining and cold since I arrived, the heater and comfy blanket in the room kept me warm. I had booked the cabin but had it all for myself. Just that the toilets/showers are outside so it was cold trying to get to it. But for the price, it was pretty good deal.

This hostel needs a makeover. The carpets are filthy. The staff is amazing, very friendly and helpful however this place is not worth the money they charge. Unless you are going to hike Tangariro there is no reason to stay in National Park.

We loved the National Park hostel very much! It had so much charm and we loved how it was more of a home than a featureless hostel. The kitchen was quaint and very close to the rooms. The showers had more than enough hot water and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff (especially Jo!) were really helpful and friendly our entire time there. She made sure we were well prepared and organized for our Alpine crossing trip and we really appreciated her local insight and care.

We had a tough time with finding accomodation in a bad weather, but people from this hostel helped us a great deal and found a room for us. The hostel is very quiet and well equipped, a nice place to hide and fix yourself after a long spell of bad weather
