We got a family intended for four for two people, so the value for money is naturally very high ;-) but it's still a great hostel, we will likely come back

Very friendly staff, nice people, good atmosphere. Modern bathroom which is a big plus. Quite big room we had for 6 which is lovely. WiFi only around the reception and kitchen though.

We stayed two nights in a double room. It was small but sufficient. The shared bathroom was clean with nice hot showers after a while. In the kitchen we could get a pot of hot water at every time, what was great after a rainy day.

The hostel has a great location. The facilities are basic, but it's nice to have a kitchen to make meals. Noise from other guests can be a problem (even at wee hours in the morning) so bring ear plugs.

I stayed in the new section and it looked practically like a hotel just with 6 beds in there. I would definitely stay there again. It also has a decent breakfast. Great location for walking around the city and it's not too far from the National Park.

Overall I liked Neptunes. It seemed to be the only hostel in town so our options were clearly limited. The room was fine minus the paper thin pillow and less than ideal mattress. Found it weird that the ladies bathroom by rooms 15-18 didn't close all the way. It was also very cramped and their was one sink for all the ladies on the floor. Not my ideal overnight accommodations but it was cheap compared to the hotels in town.

Cold and cramped bathrooms, nowhere near enough facilities for guests. One sink on an entire floor?

Two times my keycard blocked. At the reception they did not ask for an ID when fixing this.

Pretty good staff, good kitchen if a little small. Rooms were a decent size with a great bathroom, lack of wifi in rooms was a pain but other than that all good. Efficient fire safety plan, worked surprisingly well at about 4am.

The heart of Neptune's Hostel is its fiery kitchen, especially after a long hike. Note that Old Kenmare Road leads forever directly south bike-free off the N-71 from just 100 meters past Muckross House (made internatonally famous by Queen Victoria) in the National Park, first through silent truly Brothers Grimm forestry for 5 kilometers to behind Torc Mountain (585 meters), then another 5 kilometers toward Ladies' View, further beating a phenomenal path south through McGillicuddy's Reeks.

Friendly Hostel, good located in the city center and with a helpful staff ! Only the bedding could be a little bit cleaner.

i dont know how this hostel has a rating of 8/10.... decent location BUT the facilities are not built for the amount of people they squeeze in (kitchen is chaos in the morning for breakfast, fridge is packed full of food, never anywhere to sit down for dinner at peak time and our 8 bed dorm was definately not built for eight people, maybe 6 at max- everyone was tripping over each others stuff and nobody had lockers to put their stuff away). Also BRING YOUR OWN PILLOW

I have stayed in Neptunes many times and was never disappointed with any aspect of the hostel it is 1st class place to stay. Frank ( Dublin )

Completely overrated; 1powerpont between six people in our dorm, mouldy shower, poor breakfast (my first day my coffee cup was dirty and had a huge hair stuck to the inside), no lockers, security to store bags is lax (they just give you the key to the storeroom to put your own stuff away so you could steal whatever you whilst in there), wifi did not work until the end of our stay but even as multiple people complained the staff offered no real solutions or apologies.

no in room lockers

The hostel was great. Homey atmosphere and full of energy. Clean accommodations and fully equipped kitchen for use. Breakfast available each morning. Lovely. Only two problems: no lockers for your bags, and ONE bathroom per floor of dormitories. Yuck.
