Upon check-in, we were told that they did not know of any "Handcraft". I knew from reviews that it was located across the street from the original hostel, but they insisted that it didn't exist. We were given a room in the main hostel. It was a small room with an uncomfortable bed. For our last night, we were asked to move rooms to the one that we should have gotten in the first place. It was much better than what we had put up with for the first 6 days. It made us upset that we were lied to.

The accommodation is basic, but adequate for the price. Exactly what we were looking for.

We stayed in a private room which is opposite the main hostel, down the cute side street, with a key to both the main entrance and the room. The room was simple and nice, and the kitchen facilities and bathrooms are good -- we were able to cook a few meals and spend a bit of time relaxing out the front on the porch. Internet doesn't quite make it to the bedroom, but it reaches the porch. The staff are helpful. Really near Ipanema beach. Nice place!

First the staff took us to a lovely private double with its own balcony & hammock. 15 min later he came to say he'd taken us to the wrong room and we had to move. He took us to the hostel's other building (right across from this one). Major downgrade- no windows, dirty sheets with visible hairs, and the building had no common area and no wi-fi signal. I'm used to having local hostel staff, but this was mostly non-Brazilians, with limited knowledge of the area. Only plus was amazing location!

Quite a quirky place to stay but not terribly social. The location is fantastic and at least the room has airconditioning. Oh and there is a cat that meows all night....

The location is awesome. The double room we had was not in the same building as the dorms, so we did not have a lot of interacting with other travellers. The security is on high level, as we had to unlock three doors to come to our room. :)

Great location. We stayed in a 1 bedroom private inside of their art studio. It sounded weird but it had great character and a nice feel to it.

Lovely place to stay. Not posh and fancy, but very typical and genuine as we wanted. An art studio ,with classes going on during the day and a cat that we miss keeping us company during the night, in a real brasilian villa. Nice and friendly owner. Aldough no breakfast is offered, you have all kitchen facillities and good spots to buy bread and other delicious baked goods nearby. At the time we stayed in the price was a too little high, but it was during Rio+20, so this can explain the rate.

cosy atmosphere in an art gallery. Two small private rooms fronted each other. hostel to which is was affiliated was less nice, but breakfast and staff were good. Use of two bathrooms and large kitchen for only two rooms. Drawbacks were the tiny rooms and bit expensive.

very small room, could barely turn around the private room. location was amazing, 2 blocks down to the beach and close to restaurants and bars.
