What is it with YHA's & unfriendly staff? Nice hostel, lovely big common areas with fireplaces. Good size kitchen. Dorms are basis but clean. However only 2 bathrooms for the whole hostel & expensive WiFi. No atmosphere at all. Not somewhere to met people & make new friends. Pity about the staff.

I thought Hostelworld excellent, and would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of going to Newcastle for whatever reason. The staff were really helpful and bent over backwards to help me sort out trips, bus timetables and anything else I needed. The whole place was clean and tidy (not easy with so much coming and going) . Well done. I will certainly stay there again should I ever get back down that way again. Good luck for the future.

The hostel is old and really needs to get renovated. The "lounge" is okay, but the rooms and the bathrooms are in a bad shape.

Great location and great atmosphere with a huge common area. We slept 3 nights in a 8 bed dorm and during that time our room wasn]t cleaned once. There were cockroaches beacuse of the dirt so i asked the guy in the reception if they could clean the room and he justsaid "Dont come to Australia if you don't like cockroaches", so roud! Althoug the girl in there reception was really helpful and nice.

Exactly what I would want from a YHA perfect for a quiet time. Massive kitchen and everything was always clean and free bbq is always a bonus.

Very spacious hostel. Rooms were all of a decent size and the kitchen was large enough and clean. Really enjoyed the character of the place; especially the living room. Nice hostel!

Stayed in a 4 bed and in a 10 bed dorm.Just one fmle bathroom with 3-4 showers and toilets for whole hostel.1 additional seperate toilet, some rooms have ensuites.Didn't use ensuite of the 10 bed (mixed) because it was dirty (at the time).Had to share dorm with a smelling homeless person who snored, made moaning sounds and went to shared toilet every 10 minutes. Also there was some dirty underwear lying around which didn't seem to belong to anyone still staying in room.Same price for every room?

A very good hostel, I was quite impressed. The staff were great and the facilities were exceptional. Nightly activities were great. It truly felt like home away from home. Highly recommended!
