It was a good hike to this place from the train station but it was worth the stay. It is like a cottage house so don't expect too much from it. There was a late curfew which was good if you wanted to go out for a later dinner or something in town. The owner is also really nice and can store your bag for cheep for the day down by the train station if you wanted to site see then leave for another city in the afternoon.

The man who owns the place is absolutely lovely. The place itself is cold but which plenty of blankets and eaters to forget that! The walk up isn't as horrendous as I thought either and we were saved the necessity of dragging our luggage back to he station as the guy gave us a lift there and ten to the sites.

Beautiful guesthouse and location. Relaxed atmosphere and boheme, charming couple, who can cook delicious vegan dinner. This guesthouse has great personal style. I enjoyed, thank you!

Wonderful, cozy lodge with spacious rooms and a great view up on the hill side. Owner is incredibly helpful and gave great directions on the sites in the area. Speaks solid English as well and willing to give free shuttle rides to the nearby stations. Great place!

Nikko Park Lodge is located in a quiet location about 1 km from Niko. You can walk down via a lovely park walk but I recommend getting a taxi or the hotel shuttle up if you have luggage. The staff were very welcoming and the atmosphere was relaxing and most pleasant, especially around the wood burning stove in the evening.

The place is nice and the atmosphere is peaceful. There's noting else than nature around. So, if you arrive late, much better to dinner before. The hostel doesn't offer dinner service later than 8pm.

This place was a bit of a trek out of Nikko, but once you got there it had a beautiful location in the mountain area, they do have another location that is very close to the train station, but we didn't stay there. The owners were very lovely and gave us a ride to the train station when we were leaving so that was grand. Free wifi here!

This is probably the best hostel we stayed in during my time in Japan. The strange thing is, the place was almost empty: we had an eight-bed dormitory all to ourselves. I can only think of two possible explanations. 1. The location. If you don't know the short-cut, the walk from the train stations is at least 20 minutes up a long slope, and the short-cut is poorly lit at night. 2. The dormitory we were in was poorly heated, although the electric blankets they provided overcompensated admirably.

Spent one night in the sister hostel near the train station, room was freezing, windows didn't shut properly, curtains falling off the rail, bathroom was tiny, room wasn't that clean. For the cost I was expecting a lot better. The main hostel might be better but I only saw the reception which looked alright. Wouldn't recommend it.

Very western decoration, but not western convenience. The room was cold, but the heating pad meant sleeping was no problem. But no reading lamps, and the communal area was cold, too. They stop serving food at 6pm, and it is way out of town. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't have stayed in Nikko at all, but just done it as a day trip from Tokyo, and not had to lug my luggage everywhere.
