Really friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, and a nice close-to-nature location. However it was really Cold, and the beds in the dormitory weren't cleant very well after use.
lodge in the city is not a place to stay and is totaly not suited as a hostel. Showers if you can call them a such do have barely water rinsing out in what could be called warm. slaughter house atmosphere.

All in all disappointing experience, not the money worth. I would definitely try another hotel/hostel the next time I come to Nikko.
Potential to be a really nice place if the staff were less weird . Main receptionist gave us both the creeps. Told us " don't set stuff on fire" when we were the only ones there and arrived at 8 at night. It's a 15-20 min walk to the train station or a 750yen taxi. It was pretty cold up in nikko , but they do provide very cosy duvets , downside only having a tepid ( at best) shower was pretty disappointing , teeth chattering isn't the best start to the day.
Amazing hostel. I cannot wait to stay there again when I go back to Nikko. I would absolutely recommend this hostel to anyone visiting there. Ken and his staff made this the best hostel experience I have ever had.

Wonderful hostel! My mother and I had a fantastic time here. The rooms are clean and the staff is very helpful. A bit far from the station but that's what we enjoyed about it. Beautiful scenery, peaceful, quiet, and relaxing. Definitely recommend
Great Staff, Great Food and I think that the location in the middle of the forest is what I value more.
Fantastic little get-away in the mountains close to Nikko.. in tranquil settings just 15 min walk to Nikko downtown, this is just the perfect location for a break from busy Tokyo. The hostel is really nice; really cool atmosfere, nice meals available, clean, cosy.. and nice and VERY helpful staff.. and great surroundings.. would go back anytime!
Very peaceful and lovely. A stark contrast to Tokyo. The directions to the hostel are easy to follow. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. The food was very nice and not too expensive. Would definitely recommend NPL to friends.
The location is quite remote, about 15 minutes walk from the station. The staff was very helpful; we arrived during the day and could leave our bags at the hostel located in the city and got directions and tips for what to do. Our bags got picked up and dropped at the lodge while we were out enjoying the waterfall. During the morning, the owner gave us a lift and dropped us off at a lesser known sight which turned out to be beautiful. From there it was a short walk to the major sights in Nikko.
Nice lodge off the beaten path. Very close to the onsen. Staff was very knowledgeable about good walks in the area as well as public transportation.
Staff seemed preoccupied making it difficult to approach about questions and such, which was a different experience from my last stay here.
