Security is great, key card access to the hostel at night, corridors and all rooms at all time. Under bed large lockers (maybe not ur entire big bag but definitely the valuables)! Located just off queens street you are right in the centre of town - close to transport links, airport shuttle and kiwi experience drop offs. Shops, restaurants, bars, etc all within easy walking distance. Spa, sauna, bathrooms all great. Kitchen gets very messy at times but is fairly normal.
A social hostel in a good location. I think a lot of issues depend on the people who use the place. But some of the bedrooms are incredibly small for the amount of beds, and the beds... I needed a massage after my stay. Very uncomfortable, they obviously get a lot of use. The kitchen is also very small for the amount of people who want to use it. If it wasn't for these, I'd have stayed longer.
Nice with rooftop area! Vdry central location and it was clean. Though one night it was played loud music outside, which made it hard to fall asleep. I missed tables and chairs in the common room, for e.g. playing cards. Thecommon areas were generally very small. The kitchen was very small and had far to few sits - especially when it was raining. Fridges were constantly overfull.
The kitchen is so bad and dirty, no room at all for your food in the fridges. Found all my food left on the table because someone took it out to make room for their own food - had to throw everything away!!! There was a few cockroachs too, both inside the kitchen and a lot outside. The rooms are very small, i stayed in a 8 bed dorm.. The staff didn't know much about the City, very disapointing!!!
Needs more storage space in the kitchen, staff are really nice
Everything was good apart from the outside noise. Had to use earplugs to sleep an I never have to do that.
I have been to Auckland several times in the past and Nomads has become something of a default choice. I like the facilities and the area where it is located. Will stay again sometime in 2015.
Great location! Would stay there again. Really easy to meet people.
The beds were very squeaky and all he plug sockets were hidden and not very easy to get to. The communal spaces were also not that great, both the Tv room and kitchen could have done with being bigger and that would have helped the atmosphere. The attached bar was very nice though and it was always clean with hot powerful showers.
Friendly staff with a travel shop next door. Much more happening than Base and make the most of the hot tub on the roof!

Great location but can be noisy until late due to surrounding bars. Great views from kitchen (top floor). Rooms clean and tidy.
First day we left our room, when we got.back our bags had been ripped open and some moneh taken. We were in the 12 bed dorm on the same level as the laundry so everyone had access to floor and people left door open as it was 'warm' in the room. Staff were very kind and swapped our room for no extra cost and rest of stay was uneventful....sad people stealing from.other backpackers.
No free luggage storage facilities. Laundry is insanely expensive Doubt that rooms comply with fire regulations. 8-bed dorm is approx. 4.5m X 4.5m. With all the luggage on the floor it would be very hard to get out if there was a fire. Does not seem safe.
Great location and facilities. However, due to it's size, it's harder to meet/talk to other travelers ( in comparison to smaller hostels) Friendly staff and same price as other hostel in the area;
really enjoyed our stay recently during the Springsteen gig! clean, cheap and great location cheers guys!!!
Excellent location. Large backpacker hostel so dnt expect any home luxuries that you'd get at a smaller indie hostel. Staff on training were friendly and helpful. Always smiling! Night guy was helpful! Bar attached was just as expensive as any other on the road, if not more, so not appealing for backpackers! Beds were comfy and showers/bathrooms very clean!
The housekeeper on my floor was so thorough that she was cleaning the walls when I arrived. Impressive. Co-ed bathroom was spotless. Kitchen became crowded easily and most pots pots and pans need replacing. Friendly front desk staff. Excessive street noise on weekend nights, as it is near multiple bars and clubs. Bring earplugs.
Very good hostel, great location, very clean. The only bad point is that it's a dry hostel. Meaning you have to sneak alcohol in, the bar on site is good for a few beers too.
I stayed there for 3 months so now I kinda know those guys very well! Of course I had an amazing time here, especially thanks to the superb common area (kitchen, jacuzzi) on the outside rooftop (7th floor). You have to know it is a huge hostel, so things happening all the time, and not so quiet. Also, a bit expensive and the facilities are not great (just two plugs in the 10-beds dorm, blankets very occasionnaly changed), but large common area and very clean bathroom. Location is awesome!
