Excellant place to stay.Daughter 13yrs enjoyed the room and no intrusions from staff. Very good staff on desk and as have to be in Capital four times a year this is my choice of place to stay. Aroha. Heather and Ana.

Security was a joke, anyone could walk in at any time and did. They were supposed to check key cards after a certain time, but there were random non residents in the rooms after hours which I think is totally unacceptable.

Great kitchen though small, it was well equipped. Free wifi outside of the building and close to the sights of the city. Only real issue was dealing with the front desk the guy who checked us in admonished us for not having our bus driver set us up with a room because we were with stray but he had the wrong group because our bus stayed elsewhere. No apology from the pudgy white guy with glasses in the afternoon around 3 pm check in. But you do get a free meal nightly.

A good solid all-round hostel. I have stayed in both the double-bed private and the dorms, both rooms seemed nice and clean. I thought the light free-meals in bar in the evening was a nice touch. The major plus is the location, it's right smack in the middle of Wellington CBD.

This place needs to post a NOISE advisory: attention for all those travelers who are actually interested in getting some sleep--you should definitely NOT stay here. My god, I was on the 6th floor, with earplugs on, and clouldnt get to sleep until the attached bar/nightclub shutdown, usually around 4AM !!! In fairness, if you are 22 years old and love to drink til sunrise and yell til the sun rises, you've found Nirvana!!!

The bunk beds in room 305 (10 bed dorm) were very creaky!

Some bad points should be improved. Cleanliness, very bad, vacuum cleaner is done every day but not under the bed (horrible). The grid of vent in bathroom is completely obstructed with dust.Toilet paper is not refill every day, I asked reception one night in emergency, no refill before next morning. Bunk-beds are really noisy, do not move, you will wake all the room. Laundry, not very clean, the grid of the vent is also obstructed and the drying machines aren't maintain (need more time) Rest OK

Quite a big hostel, but i missed some personality. Though there are some parties in the bar connected to the hostel, which might make sleeping quite difficult. Clean rooms, clean bathrooms. Good location, accross thr street from i-site.

Very good backpackers, I liked the common room and TV, but the ensuite bathroom was not as clean as I had hoped. Definitely recommendable!

Beds make to noise, there were just 2 showers for our plant, and the room was not so clean. I was very disappointed despite the good rate of theis hostel

It was quite good -thanks. Having soap and hairdryer ( not available at Nomads in Auckland) was nice. A pity that the voucher for a snack in the evening was not available.

Second time I stayed here. Awesome location in the middle of the city. Perfectly fine hostel, but nothing special.

A chain hostel charging for towels is an extra and regrettable sting to hit the traveller with at this place. Some hostels don't charge. Wifi access prices too aren't competitive and these quite importantly, should be looked at. lockers are too small and leaves your stuff open to the elements. Indeed I lost one of my items at this hostel through what I suspect was staff negligence combined with the poor security in the dorms. Overall a good but mixed experience staying at this particular hostel.

Lovely building in a great location. The staff were excellent and couldn't be more helpful. Could do with lockers in the rooms though.

Terrific hostel. Free chocolate pudding and ice cream! Free hot tub! FREE WIFI! I wish all NZ hostels were this awesome. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful too. The only downside is the low security measures--there are no lockers in the rooms and the dorm door didn't lock either. Picton is really small and the hostel is tucked away, so I wasn't worried, but I would have felt nervous elsewhere. A wonderful place to stay overall.

There were not any sort of lockers or security in my particular room but I ended up alone the entire time so it was ok. I'm sure I could have asked and been moved to a room with lockers but because I was alone and was enjoying the peace and quiet I decided that outweighed the locker. I still played it safe and locked up my laptop in my suitcase when away from the room.

Very friendly staff, especially Eloise! The walking tour was great and we would definitely stay there again if we ever need a bed in Wellington! The lack of lockers or lock boxes is a little bit of a draw back though! But otherwise great hostel!

Good location. Lockers aren't in all the rooms which was disappointing. Staff were generally great. Kitchen was a bit small but wasn't a huge issue. Free dinners were awesome - good food and a good amount.
