Booked the hostel for it's location (reasonably close to Vector Arena). was pretty cheap for CBD but it's right next a couple of strip clubs and a brothel so not the nicest part! I booked two double rooms, this one for friends. This was for the 'Basic' room which was very small and the windows didn't close properly which was noisy on the weekend. Kitchen was filthy, they didn't even use the shower because it was so bad. this was there first hostel experience and maybe their last!
The staff here are fantastic! Extremely helpful and just lovely people! The hostel itself is in need of restoration - balding and dirty carpets, mould in the bathrooms. Bed bugs - many girls were bitten in my dorm. Beds are uncomfortable. The hostel is due for renovation sometime and hopefully they will prioritise that! Events are on most nights and are great fun. The hostel has a fantastic location also and everything is very accessible.
front desk people were really lovely. room was clean and it was a really good location !
Good location, good staff and good value for money. Dorms were clean and simple and the apartment style layout is nice.
Just a very decent hostel. Apartment style is nice. You can definitely have a good night sleep here and location is very central. Don't expect to much from the free dinner/snack, it is good but very small.
The Camel is an excellent place to stay if you like to be around people. Perfect location in the city, great bar, free food every day, the staff are top grade and basically never miserable or unhelpful. Sure the place is a little bit grubby, but it more than makes up for it in every other aspect.
Staff is so nice and helpful, location is central but you can't hear any noise from the bars etc., you can store your luggage allday long, rooms are clean,... I stayed at camel before and would stay there again, for that price it's highly recommend!!

Great location, helpful staff, really nice free snack meal and liked the apartment style layout. However bed s were very thin, bathrooms needed a good clean and kitchen was pretty basic. Also didnt seem to change duvet covers when guests checked out.
This hostel is everything a lone or group traveller could want. A little different in that the dorms are arranged in an 'apartment' style layout with four rooms feeding into one communal kitchen/diner area. Great bar, cheap drinks, with something going on every night to get you involved and make friends. The pub crawl guarantees you a good night. Rooms and communal lounge on level one could do with updating, but still clean and i got a good night sleep. Would recommend.
Good place but needs to improve the housekeeping in the rooms
I have stayed at this hostel 4 times while in Auckland and love it. The staff are so friendly and there is a great atmosphere. The activities in the bar every night are a great way to meet people. The free snack meals are really good. I have made some great friends while staying at this hostel who I have now met up with in the south island.
We stayed there one night. The staff is really friendly. The rooms are basic, a bit noisy because of the bars in the street, but the location is really good in the center of Auckland.
Great location, friendly staff and the chance to store the luggage the whole day.. but bad facilities - our window was broken, so we couln't close it (in winter). It was freeeezing cold, not superclean and therefore ok but not too value for money.

Really central hostel. The rooms are basic but clean and all right. Was there tow times. Good value for money.
Not a bad hostel for city centre Auckland. Really friendly, helpful staff & liked the layout of the apartment style rooms. The evening meal is a nice extra but it seems like a lot to upgrade for 8 dollars (with a drink) when at the Nomads in Wellington you can upgrade for just 2 dollars! The only thing that lets this place down is the bar - it could be full of backpackers in the evening but instead they play random, thumping music at dinner time and it just gets worse from then on.
Hostel is nice but atmosphere is not the best. Liked the location and the evening snacks! Can be cleaner from time to time.
