seemed to be like apartments were converted to sets of dorms - each cluster had a kitchen and a few bathrooms and then about 40 people sharing everything - was a bit hard to get use of the facilitie

My first trip to a hostel. Friendly & helpful staff who knew their stuff and could answer every question. Well managed, well run.

Cheap and cheerful. Make sure you use the lockers.

Dirty all over, apartment style accommodatio = outside your room you have the common area/kitchen where people play drinking games all night and scream their heads off. Fridges hadn't been cleaned for ages and no space in them. Kitchen the size of a broom closet. The rooms (on floor # 4) we're packed full so no room for your stuff + "safety lockers" were flimsy wooden boxes with a metal bindings (use your own padlock) that a 5 year old can break up. Peoples stuff got stolen! No help from staff!

A larger kitchen would be preferred :) And probably at least two toilets and showers per flat (in flat 201 there was no light in one of the bathrooms - so in fact we had to use one)

Slick, big, money making machine. The apartment set out is cool, though do not like no BYO. they messed up our booking but were helpful in resolving by upgrading us to private room. Very good value for NZ. A good choice for Auckland CBD.

Nomads almost have it spot on. Free meals, clean rooms and lots of fun. It's a shame, our stay was marred by freezing rooms and the frantic 'need to sell you a tour' attitude of the front desk. We asked for advice on getting to Dunedin and instead we're almost mis-sold a Magic Bus tour. Twice. Quit the hard sell, turn up the heat and you're winning.

All of the receptionists, apart from one, were very VERY good at their jobs. Really nice service, very good facilities. The room I stayed in smelt really bad, but the upside is, that the bed I was on didnt creak at all, and it made for a good sleep.

The staff here are fantastic! on my first night ever out of Australia i locked my luggage keys in my suitcase and went into a bit of a panic, but wthe staff calmed me down, broke the lock to get into my luggage... and then fixed the lock so it worked perfectly again! THANK YOU JAKE AND AARON!! you guys literally saved my holiday :-)
