They have bedbugs!! All the sheets had bloodstains. After asking about this, they said the sheets came from an other room, our room wouldn't have bedbugs.. But it did. All the rooms have an open topwall, so you can hear everything theyr'e saying in the room next to yours and the morning lights shines right into your room. Staff is friendly though, you have your own locker with a pluginn for phone etc. But I wouldn't stay here again.

Owner Comment (Show)
Small pin head blood spotting does not indicate bugs. It does indicate a history from a room but the spots are difficult to remove from coloured sheets as it will distroy the sheeting. Sorry you allowed this to taint your stay. These bugs come from travellers and is not an indication of cleanliness by any means.

It was my first time staying in a hostel. So I have no references. My only complaint was the bed bugs, and the blood stains on the pillows! Pretty gross!

Sorry about your first experience but the room Oasis has never had bugs so I would suggest you consider some of the other culprits like sand flies or sea lice as a possibility.. All of the bugs discussed are a constant summer battle and we do our utmost to protect and educate guests.

Hostel ok & staff v nice & happy BUT had a TERRIBLE night's sleep due to BED BUGS. I've been travelling for 15 months & I've encountered bed bugs 5 or 6 times - once in NZ, the rest on the East Coast of Aus so I know all about the spread of bed bugs, what they look like, how they behave etc. My bed had bugs & so did 3 others that I tried in another room! They need to improve their bug management system cos otherwise they r failing to provide the very thing you are paying for - a bed to sleep in!

When I stayed there, it rained the whole time. Sitting indoors, not much to do, no really good commonareas. The benches in the kitchen is not that good to sit on when u watch a movie. But at least they had movies, and a bar. It's clean. I didn't know that this was a place for children as well...I wouldn't say it's bad, just not good either.

In Australia it is not polite as a visitor to sit on the benches. What a shame that you don't believe that families have the right to travel.I think you need to consider others a little more in a shared situation. Enjoy your travel

a 20 minute walk out of town and not the friendliest. but overall the kitchen was good and had decent rooms

Staff were very helpful. Pool didn't look very clean to me so wouldn't have used it for that reason. Location was very good centrally located for trips and restaurants by the river. Noise level was high from bar when trying to sleep due to building design which was poor.

Budget accommodation is exactly that. The rooms are designed to get as much air as possible through them to rid the odour of the travellers. In the middle of summer this air movement is a welcome source of fresh air. At 35 degrees at midnight it is very relieving, and that is Queensland. Please enjoy the rest of your travel.

The free shuttle, surfboards, boogieboards and kayaks can't be beat! Add a cheap bar, clean and spacious rooms and good bathrooms, and you get a great hostel experience!

Bed bugs don't bite all over the body so I would seriously consider sand flies or sea lice as they bite all over bed bugs will be in one patch or side area of the body. These are bought into the premises and every attempt and expense is directing at controller the somewhat uncontrollable. Please enjoy the rest of your travels.

nice hostel but no night guard who tells the people at night to shut up.

In order to provide cheap accommodation it is essential that guests assist with some of the admin of a facility. Dishes in the kitchen for example and telling others to shut up would be considered a fair request from other guests in a shared facility. Enjoy your travel.

DI had a great time in there. THey provide free wifi and also can borrow surfing board freely. But if you don't want drinking at night there was no where but bed room. It needs TV lounge or reading room seperately. Nevertheless the hostel is stil good.

Nice hostel with pool and comfortable lounge and kitchen (even sharp knives!), tv with new films and if sunny, area to chill and eat outside. All in all recommendable.

Bedbugs ALL OVER!! The staff would lie about which rooms were contaminated (since all of them were) and ask people to not make a big deal out of it. Moved to another hostel after the 1st night.

Luciana, bed bugs are actually carried in by travellers and we treat the matter with highest importance. It is not a reflection of cleanliness it is a reflection of high humidity and wer guest have come in from. In your room there were guests that had been there for quite some time with no reports. I am sure that we attended to the matter immediately and you were unlucky to have encounted some that had just come in. We do not have them everywhere as statements like that can be taken out of context. I do however respect your comments and this helps us to remain vigilant for these pests as they keep arriving in bags.

Awesome staff! Regular shuttle service to the beach what is good. Everything clean. Not a party hostel. Good for couples or just relaxing. Would definitely recommend it !!!!

Maria, sorry if you experienced these bugs but the room you were in has never had bugs nor has that room had any reports this year. We are very reactive to this problem and do our utmost to keep them out as they are carried in by customers. However I would suggest to you that this year has been very testing for sand flies and midgees. I would hope that you are very clear on any other posssibilities before posting.

When we arrived and we saw the information sheet to let us know that bed bugs are common in Australia, my Aussie boyfriend didn't agree. And then, the cockroach i saw when i entered made me feel uncomfortable but because they are normal outside, it can be fine, the only thing is more because we couldn't close the front door, i was a bit scared. And the first night, a drunk guy pissed all over the floor in the shared bathroom just before i wanted to take a shower. Otherwise, it was good.

Hostel itself is okay but the place is full of bedbugs!!! Staff assured me that room had been cleaned and sheets changed but this was utter rubbish as I ended up carrying them on to the next hostel and they are HORRIFIC to get rid of! Will not be staying here again and will be reporting them to the Australian health department.
