Pretty much a hotel with dorm rooms. This hostel has everything you'd need, only a short walk away from both the metro and several tourist attractions, plus staff go out of their way to make sure your questions get answered. Also - beautiful kitchen facilities and free tea and coffee!!

The toilet and bath room are lacking in rush hours. Locations is very goods. Nice staff. ^_______^

One of the loveliest hostels I've ever stayed in. There was absolutely nothing lacking, from the peaceful atmosphere (even the 16 bed dorm was full, it was quiet), to the well equippedbbathrooms and kitchen and first and foremost, the welcoming and very helpful staff.

Good place to stay in Tokyo out of crowded city. Not over 10 minutes walk from Uguisudani on Yamanote JR. Staff can speak English. Can go to Ueno just 1 station by JR Line. Value for money.

Nice and clean hostel. We had a very nice twin room. Good facilities and nice decoration. The only downside was a combination of loud neighbors with rude children and not very sound proof walls.

Place was one of the cleanest and well equipped hostel that I've ever stayed before, incl. rental bicycles, umbrellas and even curtains for every single bed so you can sleep well at night too. Location was just a stop from Ueno station (a main transit Subway sstation) which made travelling such a breeze. Staff were absolutely helpful. Highly recommended.

What a lovely and quiet little hostel! We weren't sure what to expect knowing that ueno was a bit of a distance away from the typical tokyo sights, but were pleasantly surprised by how conveniently located oak hostel zen is. There's a JR stop a 5 minute walk away, a convenience store next door and plenty of things to see and do in the area. The hostel itself is immaculate, and you're sure to get a good night's rest. Would recommend a hundred times over!

I did not love this hostel. It was down a secluded street that I wasn't comfortable with as a female solo traveler. In addition the desk staff wasn't very helpful. I would just rate this hostel as okay. On the other hand, the beds on the sing bend dorm were extremely comfortable.

This was a very nice hostel, clean, modern and nice little touches like power sockets, lights and curtains at every bed. The kitchen is great with lots of space and facilities. It's located right near a JR train station and a 5 minute walk through the park to a metro station. Lots of cheap eats nearby. It's a fairly quiet neighborhood but the trains are easy to navigate to the busier spots. I liked it here.

it's a hotel not a hostel!!!

Quiet and clean place to leave in, about 5 min walk to 2 different stations - a JR line station and another metro station. Family mart was just right in the corner. Staffs were friendly. If got a chance, will live in again.

Overall, it was a peaceful, comfortable stay

Oak Hostel Zen is a fantastic hostel. It's modern, very clean, with a huge fully stocked kitchen and drink vending machines for water or beer. The free tea and coffee were definitely appreciated. I stayed in a private room and 16 bed dorm and liked both. Dorm had big lockers, individual lights and plugs for beds, curtains for privacy. Bathrooms were also great and very clean. Helpful staff, good location near two subway lines and not a far walk to Ueno Park. I would definitely stay here again!

This was the worst hostel I stayed at whilst in Japan. The facilities are old and dated, they often ran out of toilet paper in the bathrooms and the location was not very nice at all. I would also avoid staying in the larger hostel dorm rooms if possible, it is just too noisy to have a dorm of that size.

The hostel is overall an excellent hostel, however, if the hostel could provide guests with disposable slippers would be perfect, as for the other things, I think maybe the internet connection could be more stable, because I got offline several times a day when using it, and I do hope there are a few more plug-ins in the lobby, haha, maybe ask too much for such a super value price~

This was a pretty nice place. I enjoyed my time here and met some cool people. The staff was really friendly, facilities were good, and security pretty good overall. The lockers could be a little bit bigger, but I was able to fit my backpack and camera bag in alright. They can safely store your large suitcase for you, I believe. The location is not great as it's next to Uguisudani station. It's close to Ueno though, and you can take the Yamanote line to Shinjuku, Shibuya, etc. Recommended.
