I'm happy with this hotel, location may be a little far from the main Tokyo but still lot of things to see and easy to move around. I went to an oriental type bedroom and it was a very nice experience.

It is a good, nice and quite hostel. It's pity they don't have a bigger and comfortable common area where you can eat breakfast or drink a bear in the evening.

Good for couples but not great for solo travellers. With no proper common room, it was hard to meet people. My roommates were first three 60 year old Chinese women. I am mid 20s and English. After they left, there was no-one in my room except me. So I didn't meet anyone really and spent my time in Tokyo by myself. The staff were great though, really friendly and their sushi party was pretty cool.

The Oak hotel was the friendliest, most organised, welcoming hostel/hotel we have ever stayed in. Rooms were tiny but clean with all amenities, staff were extremely helpful and had tonnes of travel advice, maps and would look up, print out, book, find anything you like. The mini kitchen was a saving grace for our gluten free daughter, free internet much valued, and the communal table provided a chance to meet others. The location was great just ten mins to the main Ueno station and Ueno park!

The hostel is in a good location, but a little bit worn out. I stayed in a single room, though it is clean, but you can smell the room is getting old. if you are not picky on these things, it is recommended.

Nice place! Cosy dorm room with couch. Lovely staff - i had left my small teddy bear (my travel companion on solo adventure!) in my bed by mistake when checking out, but when i came back to collect luggage later, the girl working there had put my teddy sitting on top of my bags waiting for me!! :)

The location is rather convenient near JR Yamanote line Ueno station. There is good Sukya fast-food joint nearby .The common area is a bit small. The checkout is a bit early too: 10am. Unlike Hong Kong the hostel standards in Japan are rather high. So this place met the standard.

Nice hospitality and clean room. But you cannot expect morning bufet or chatting room/ bar that you always expect in visiting medium sized to big hostels as it seems the building was for business hotel originally.

Not the nicest place, the beds were really hard and it lacked a real character about it. The bathroom in the male dorm was tiny! I was happy to leave that place, there's so many better places to stay in Tokyo...

Good basic room close to UNO station; fit our purposes. Not a huge amount of hostel charm, but hey,it's urban Tokyo!

Close to Ueno station which connects you to the yamanote line; the hostel is located in a place that lets you taste how japanese people go about their daily lives. The room was not spacious, but for Tokyo standards it was ok, sheets were changed every day and towels too, also complimentary toiletries were replaced constantly. Staff was particularly nice and helpful and there are many cheap places to eat within walking distance.

The Staff is the best one!! They helped me so much :) All of them, and they speak very good english! The location is very good, especially if you come from Narita airport, could not be easier arriving to the hotel! I would definitely stay there again if going to Tokyo and and absolutely recommend it!! Enjoy!

A bit old, but a hotel with extra facilities not a hostel. Doubt you can find anything central in Tokyo, bookable from outside Japan and gives you your own bathroom for this price. Staff spoke English OK and helped with luggage storage (costs 500 yen/suitcase/night), giving directions and attending to any problems with the room. Easy walking distance to Ueno station. There was free butter and jam at reception, free miso soup in the kitchen, plenty of cutlery/crockery, wifi, kettle in room.
