PERFECT hostel. Stayed at Bamber House my first time in Auckland. This is even closer to the DARLING village of Mt. Eden which made it even more perfect! Everything was amazing. Couldn't ask for more in a hostel.

This was a decent room, as we stayed in the basic room we were near the communial areas so it was a bit noisy in the night. Otherwise good stay, great kitchen.

Very nice place to stay near Mount Eden. Very friendly staff, great kitchen and relaxing living room. Wifi basically isn't free but we recieved free voucher on check-in which were sufficient. Overall a pleasant stay.

Very nice hostel, comfortable and clean. Great restaurants and shops around the corner from the hostel. Corner rooms on top floor with balconies were lovely - let in a lot of light. Was a ways away from the airport though which was a little painful since we were there only one night.

We stayed at Oacklands Lodge two times during our stay in Auckland and that was exactly what we were looking for: a quiet backpacker with a friendliness athmosphere. The facilities were really well furnished (especially the kitchen), and everything was very clean. On top of it, Mt Eden is a great area with nice café and an amazing view on the city fromthe summit of the volcano.

I picked Oaklands Lodge for my stay in Auckland because the description said it was a very quiet hostel - not a party hostel. I arrived on the Friday after an early start and a long night hoping to get a good night's sleep. Instead there were several groups of long term residents (I think) at the hostel having noisy parties - one group in the room next to me, one group outside under my bedroom window and several other parties in rooms around the hostel. These parties continued on until 1-2am.

What a great backpackers. Young folks, old folks, short term, long term, simply all kinds of travellers staying there. The location around is beautiful and has good access to the center by bus. Staff is amazingly friendly and helpful. Rooms are very nice and clean as well. all in all, it's very easy to recommend this one :)

Found two of the staff to be super unfriendly but not the reception staff who were great. Fab location by Mt Eden and the Mt Eden shops. 2 mins to the bus stop for buses to the city and also for the airport express bus. Lots of activities and meal nights offered by the hostel. No bunks!!! lockers in the 8 bed dorm were handy, too. I'd be happy to stay there again if I go back to Auckland.

As other people have stated there is a group of long term stayers but 95% of them are very welcoming! The hostel is in a great location, all the staff are very friendly and the weekday manager is a cutie. Very helpful with information on buses, local areas and trying to get people involved. If I return to New Zealand I would love to stay here again! Best hostel I've stayed in so far!

I enjoyed my stay here very much. This hostel is a great place to rest and definitely not a good choice if you want to party. Mt. Eden is lovely and in my opinion one of the few beautiful places Auckland has to offer. Lots of cute cafés right around the corner from the hostel. The city center can be eached by foot, it's only a 30 mminute walk. I would come and stay again.

quite a ways out of town, didn't think it'd be that far. but otherwise the hostel is pretty good if you're fine with not being near the city centre

Brilliant stop that I could not fault. Nice and quite, which is good for the jet lag. Really close to the city and shops. Cheers for the brilliant stay. Not recommended for party people, which was the reason for my stay. Also really clean too.

I enjoyed my stay at Oaklands, it was a really good idea to put on some evening activities as it introduced me to others in the hostel. I did think though with quite alot of people staying there long term, cliques developed and it was not always easy to join them! The hostel itself is clean, quiet when it needs to be, very secure and in a very nice location next to Mount Eden, with buses into town being regular and only $1.90. There are plenty of shops, cafe's and a supermarket close by.
