You can tell it's purpose built- everything works as it should and it's a great place. But.... such flimsy beds, ridiculously wobbly. It felt like they needed to be secured to a wall or something. Every time either person on top or bottom moved they swayed. Replace or fix these, and it would be great!
Basic Hostel. Nothing more. Good for a short stay. The door was open at 12 p.m. (every door of every roon, I could walk in any of them) and nobody was seen. I closed the door of my room to change clothes, staff came in and told me in an unfriendly way that the door has to stay opened. They were also fighting right in front of me. Would have rated it poor, but the two nice guys at the reception get plus points for helping me. Someone also stole my roomates expensive pants.
Hostel was extreamly busy. I chose to pay more to have my own room as sleeping with 6 others with no ventertion didn't seem pleasing. Great base but not the nicest set up
The kitchen was too small for all the people staying at the hostel. It was free breakfast but it ran out so we didn't get breakfast everyday. We stayed in a female dorm but in the middle of the night a guy came in and slept there and the staff didn't know anything about it.the staff didn't seem to care that the female dorms weren't just females in it which is weird since we paid for a female dorm. It just didn't feel safe that people that are not supposed to be in your room have a key to your ro
It would be better if the double bunk bed is more stable... It was shaking when we try to get to the top and even shaking when the person on the single bed turning, it can wake other people up as well who sleep on the double bottom bed.Other than that everything is very good.

A nice hostel right near the centre of town. The 6 bed dorm was a bit small, but fine to stay in overnight.
One of my favourite ones on our trip. Access via a pool room. Well run, clean with friendly staff. Rooms are slightly small. Excellent bathrooms and laundry. Good internet and computers. Dunedin is incredible and this hostel is located in a lovely place. Millions of yummy food options nearby
Had an awesome time, stayed for 3 nights. Hostel staff couldn't have been more helpful and are a great group of people! Many thanks :)
This hostel has a great location. included wifi is helpful too. Unfortunately atmosphere is ok - mostly people are surrounding around the TVs. There are some rowdy people in this hostel, that wasn't so cool.
On Top has poor acoustics. External sounds loudly travel past all the outward facing rooms and the walls are very thin (you can hear your neighbours snoring, coughing, and so on). Bring ear plugs (and I say this as a heavy sleeper). The bed wasn't too comfortable either. But if you want to stay on top of a pool hall and bar, and have it large, this place is the bomb.
A very basic hostel with quick access to most parts of Dunedin!
Love this hostel. Would highly recommend to anyone staying in Dunedin!
I loved this hostel and my time spent there. The location is perfect and the facilities are excellent and clean. Only negative thing I must say is I think the desk staff are a little rude and unwelcoming except the guy (NZer, tallish and blonde..a bit older) working the day I left who was absolutely lovely. Great hostel
Free breakfast (toast, cereal, coffee and tea) and free wifi. Next to library were is free wifi, too. Comfortable beds but not proper ladder to get to top bunk. Rooms are really small, no space for luggage. Other than that good place for couple nights.
Nice hostel but the kitchen is too small and gets to warm when there are people cooking
Prime location. Good sized kitchen so there's room for everyone. The beds were a bit rickety. The whole thing would move if the person on the top moved. Also a bit sketchy climbing onto the top bunk. Other than that, it was great.
Great location and staff at bar/reception very helpful. Large TV area, decent kitchen, free breakfast and WiFi, key card room doors. Only downsides are no lockers to store belongings plus bunks without proper ladders are irritating.
Our private room was a bit special, like a inverted balcony where on of the walls were completely glass with a slide door. You had the option to pull a sturdy curtain to get some privacy and I didn't mind. Thought the toilets felt really fresh. Otherwise nothing special, a bit small kitchen and common room (in the same room).
