Salvador has been great so far and the open house played a major role to make our stay one of the best travel experiences we've ever had, so we decided to stay longer. alex helped us to discover an amazing cultural environment here, meeting musicians, dancers and wonderful people. salvador is culturally like a gold mine and so is the open house with its music colors and chill out atmosphere. many thanks!

Alex was amazing. He offered us a cold drink as we arrived and showed us around the whole place - he made us feel very welcome! The open house is probably the most relaxed place we stayed in. Beautiful common area with nice paintings and chill out music, the whole house has a very nice artists touch. Breakfast was good as well. To be fair, the bathrooms need to be renovated. We highly recommend the place (especially for people who want to relax) and would definitely stay again! Thanks guys!

The hostel is in an old and very poorly maintained house. The door of room have only a padlock and don’t have even a door handle, All the place was very dirt and I found lots of cockroach everywhere. Almost everything was broken (hydraulic and electrical installations) or poorly mended. Cracked walls and windows that don’t close are some other examples of the problems I found. Hostel World shouldn’t have hostels so bad on your site.

Best Hostel we have been to!! Two working computer, a GREAT breakfast (sometimes Even with fresh pancakes) and only 5 minutes away from a beautiful beach. Alex is so so nice and helpful! Everytime you get back to the house, you are glad to be "home".

A place with character and great energy! If you want something more than just to sleep in the hostel, it is the place to stay. Alex is really helpful and friendly, he took us to the live concert and also payed for our tickets-thank you Alex! We also had a samba night. I must say that the breakfast is one of the best I had in Brasil, although I hope that the coffee quality will improve. If you want a great experience and do not mind the no-air conditioned room, it is a place for you! Great hostel

We enjoyed our stay very much at Open House Barra. The atmosphere of this hostel was not sociable and the very cosy common areas were always empty. The decoration of the house is truly amazing, and the colours are warm and vivid. Free capoeira and samba classes. Location is good. Breakfast does not add up to the price paid. Alex is extremely kind, social and has a lot of insider tips, while Jacqueline is the opposite and sometimes made us feel very unwelcome at the hostel.

The hostel was very clean and always smelled good! The decoration was great as was the breakfast!! There was not a/c just fans. The staff was pretty good except the woman who owns it did NOT tell us anything about the hostel ie breakfast, her dance classes, the kitchen nothing we felt like we were almost intruding. After a couple nights it was better but we still did not get to one of the dance classes.

Great breakfast, Internet/computer facilities and a nice little library for book exchanges. Owners were incredibly hospitable and helpful with arranging plans and entertainment. Would definitely recommend this hostel to friends visiting salvador.
