It was very, very dirty, with a musty smell . Mould on the ceiling in the bathroom, spots in the sheets (I hopefully had a sleeping bag !), and the kitchen...not cleaned once during the four days I've spent there. No locker. A pane was broken, no problem, it was just covered with a piece of bin bag. The worst place I've ever seen (and no refund so once you're there and see the disaster you cannot really step back !). The reception committee is.. well, the place is often a reflection of its owner

This hostel was very strange. There was only 1 knife in the kitchen, no cheese grater, and the reception was ALWAYS closed. The kitchen was infested with flys, and it was extremely unpleasant to cook in. I would try not to stay here again. The only thing it has going for it is it's the cheapest I could find in melbourne.

Loved having an affordable room to myself. Not often I can splurge on this kind of luxury. I'm currently working and that includes night shifts. Coming back to dorm rooms usually means no sleep. Having a room to myself is bliss and the whole hostel is relatively quiet. It's also clean and tidy. Maybe because I've stuck more to myself I didn't notice much in the way of group activities.

This is probably the worst hostel I have stayed in ever. The room was filthy, with no lockable storage and all furniture was falling apart. The mattress had springs protruding through it and was so old it had no padding at all. The linen was also not clean and in dire need of replacing. The facilities were severely lacking, no working lights in the showers and no hand washing facilities for use after using the toilet. This hostel is a disgrace and I can't believe it is allowed to remain open.

We were unable to lock the door from the inside of the room which does not give you much peace of mind. The room had a very damp and musty smell which was not very pleasant

Good location to bars, cafes but in a pretty dodgy area. Many people referred to the hostel as "prison" - small rooms, not particularly clean, but had a good time there with fun people

Great Staff & very helpful. Just a few things that could be improved (1) Electric kettle was broken. (2) I am not sure how it can be controlled but there was a lot of noise in corridors, most nights up until about 3am. (3) Perhaps not worth having TV in rooms if they are nearly impossible to see or hear. (4) Need more crockery & cutlery in kitchen (5) Plus could be a little cleaner (6) Would love to see a financial incentive for stopping more than one night

Bad experience here, hostel was old and dirty, had to pay usual key deposit of 20 dollars, but reception only opens at 10 so if you need to check out before hand your screwed! Very noisy, staff not friendly!

27$ for a room so small that you can barely open your bag, rude staff and crappy kitchen/ bathrooms.

Kind of a cool facility, pretty run down, not terribly clean, definitely a party hostel. If that\'s what you\'re looking for, great. Then again if you\'re staying in St. Kilda, you are probably looking for a party hostel. The internet is also terrible.

After reading some horrible reviews online I was a bit nervous to see my room, but I was pleasantly surprised. Good sanitary facilities, tv-room, computers, a terrace, perfect location close to the beach and just a tram ride from Melbourne centrum. Friendly staff and a good atmosphere.

I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone! I went with a group of friends who had all booked through hostel world and the woman at the counter couldn't find our bookings or understand what we were asking of her. She was very dismissive and gave us our rooms after 15 minutes of her being vague about the whole thing. Rooms are disgusting. I got bed bugs from staying there quite badly all over my arms and legs. The only positive is the location, but there are far nicer around St Kilda than this!

I chose the backpacker mainly for the parking, and there's not. Very bad staff, unhelpful and mean!! They laugh of you, first said you can cancel whenever you want. Then, when you ask for a refund, they said 'maybe tommorow' ' come back next week maybe' A lot of mistakes in the booking (not the right dormitory, not the right gender). No linen on the beds, need to ask a lot of times!! And the place was very VERY VERYYYYYYYYY dirty, especially the kitchen. You can't eat there!!!! Simply awful!!!
