Ostello Per La Gioventú Ancona Reviews

A bog standard hostel, but let down by the lack of trimmings (things like shelves/hooks in the showers and lockers make a massive difference). Staff didn't seem to know much about the area either. Ancona is the main ferry port to Greece out of season and at least a timetable, map or directions would have been useful.

Nice hostel, close to train station. Very nice owners but they can't speak much English. The bus to get from the hostel to centre of town takes only 10 minutes and comes often. Very clean- but no lockers.

No privacy, no security, no air con, dirty bathrooms and sitting area. The male owner came into my female dorm an hour before checkout and locked the door on his way out. Luckily I had been in the shower (not getting dressed in the dorm!) and saw him so I could get him to let me back in. He was rude and resentful and pointed at my bag, muttering something in Italian. Nowhere to lock up bags. One room key for 5 people. Pathetic. I'll be glad to see their business go under.

The 5 person women's room (room 204) was unbelievably hot - no fans, no cross-breeze. I felt like i was sleeping in an oven (late Aug. '11)

I pent one night here in August 2011 before taking an early morning flight home. The positives: clean and close to the station. There is a convenience store just outside the hostel and a "Billa" supermarket 5 mins away on foot. Negatives: the station is located in a very un-Italian location, with lots of dodgy characters walking around. It is safe during the day but I wouldn't walk around there after dark. There is are locks on the lockers so bring your own.

The best thing about this hostel was that it was in a good location and close to train station so getting to the port was easy. Staff didn't really speak much english which made it hard. Annoying that they close the rooms between 12pm and 4pm to clean. No fan or aircon in the rooms either so rooms are so hot. Otherwise hostel was ok and was pretty clean.

Great location round the corner from the train station, clean, but rooms can get very hot in the summer (no AC). The staff is nice, even if the guy appears a bit grumpy at first.

Overall the hostel was satisfactory. We enjoyed the large communal area and sufficient guest kitchen. The ladies at the reception were freindly and helpful. We did not like the fact that there was only one key for a room with 6 strangers. This information was not passed on at check-in. If someone were to leave with the key the remaining guests in the room may be locked out...or the door left unlocked. If you are the type of traveller that is concerned with security do not stay at this hostel.
