My favourite hostel so far in all my journey to Europe. Incredible atmosphere, friendly staff, wonderful pasta, beautiful view from the terrace, incredible garden... I really can't say enough good things about this place. I even asked to stay an extra night. It would be worth a trip to Italy just to come here.

I arrived later than the opening hours of reception, because of the buses were striking and the owner/receptionist actually came to pick me up in the bus stop, which was super nice. The hostel is very clean, perfect location if you want to spend a day in a busy Florence and evenings in a calm place. Beautiful surroundings, beautiful old building, basic but good breakfast, friendly staff and easy to get to Florence on a public transport. Would stay again anytime.

Hello! yes indeed unfortunately when there is a strike, it is difficult to get at our Hostel but we always try to help and find a solution. Reading that you enjoyed your stay with us makes us happy and we thank you for having choosen our Hostel. Always be welcome, anytime Best greetings from the whole Bigallo Staff

The Bigallo is incredibly beautiful. It's nestled far from the city, which can be inconvenient without a car & those weak of knees up the hill, but it's a former monastery, and you can't really find that beauty elsewhere for the price. The woman at the front desk was so wonderfully hospitable & kind.

Hello! It was just our pleasure to have you with us as our Guests! Many thanks for this wonderfully kind writing, makes us happy reading. Next time in Florence, just hope you'll be back. We all send you our best greetings - Bigallo Staff

Beautiful place . Wish there were more signage on the frontage road

Hello! Thanks that you find our place beautiful and having chosen us for your stay, Being a historic and antique building, we cannot put some coloured or showy signs on the facade. At dark we have some lightsigns just above the principal entrance and indeed during the day if you do not have a good look it is possible just to pass by. Best greetings from the Bigallo Staff

A little out of the main city so a bit of a journey to get in and out of the city. Amazing hostel though, really good view of Florence, delicious dinner and really good wine. All the staff members were so helpful and lovely.

Hello! Yes indeed we are a little out of the city center and it takes you 40 minutes to get at the Hostel. But then it is a real tuscan experience. Thanks thanks a lot for having stayed with us and that you liked our place, our food, wine and the Bgallo staff, Our best greetings

This hostel is really unique and awesome in preserving this uniqueness. The old spital can really be seen and imagined in the great halls, staircases and corridors. The building also has a wonderful garden with a great view over the city where one can hang out. Diner portions are a bit small but it was good with tasty wine. Breakfast was also good. The staff is really nice and helpful and gives good advice. Only problem was the loud private party going on on a balcony right below the dormitory.

Hello! Thanks for writing and it makes us really happy to read you. Sorry that the party was a bit loud and that you could hear it in the dorm up the balcony. Indeed we had some private events, even if usually our events are public and music always finishes at latest at midnight. The whole Bigallo Staff sends you his best greetings and hope you can come back once.

This place was by far the best part of my visit to Florence. The history is astounding...it was built in the 1200s, which means that that lovely sunset view once contained an entirely different set of buildings, buildings where Dante would have lived as he was learning to write. The present of the building is just as beautiful, with an orchard full of tasty fruit that reappears for breakfast baked into cakes. The staff are friendly and enthusiastic about the history. Definitely worth the trek.

Hello Thanks for your nice writing! It was our pleasure to have you here with us... and just come back again! The Bigallo Staff sends you best greetings and hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday

Stayed for 2 nights, and the views of the countryside and downtown Florence are absolutely spectacular. Stayed in the 24 bed room, which was pretty novel and I enjoyed it, but the comments about old WC facilities are correct. Bring mosquito repellant. No AC, but heat wasn't really an issue. Definitely walk around and see the grounds and garden. If you're on foot, prepare for a walk uphill, but once you're there, you won't want to leave. Breakfast and pasta time were both good. Recommended.

Hello! Thanks for writing! We are happy to inform that yesterday we finally open our new bathrooms!! Really sorry that you still had the works in progress. Stille have a good summertime and whenever, just come back Best greetings from all of us Bigallo Staff

- nice huge old stone house out of town (8km / 1 hr by bus) from Florence - huge garden with fruit trees where you could pick and eat plums, figs, apples, pears etc - no air con -> mosquitos - got a map,for a trekking tour :) - within Tuscany hills - pasta + wine at night on the huge terrace with view of sunset and Florence - nothing close around except for a small cafeteria (downhill at bus stop) - breakfast included - wifi only around reception

HI! Thank for your writing and nice comments! Indeed we have no air conditioning as we are in an antique medieval building in the countryside and these past days it has been unusual hot! That is also why there are mosquitos all around so it is true to suggest to bring some repellent! There is also a local bar/ restaurant about 20 minutes down-walk ( open on lunch time every day and from thursday till sunday also for dinner). Best greetings

I can't say enough good things about this place. 100% worth the long walk everyone in the reviews is whinging about. Amazing for solo travellers, probably the most social hostel I've ever been in. Pasta time is well worth the €7. The view of Florence from the terrace is breathtaking, and it's not too much effort to head in for the day. I did it 3 days in a row with different groups of people who I had just met that day. When I was there the guests were about 80% Australian, so Aussies: book now!

I have given good location because I wanted to relax in the countryside without having to travel very far for it as I have no car and are using public transport but if uyou wanted to explore Florence it is possible but requires a 2 short bus trips. the only bad thing I can say is there is no laundry facilities. staff were great even providing vegan meals when asked.

Hello! It was a pleasure to have you here with us and that you could relax. Indeed at the moment our washing machine is broken and we are to buy a new one. So sorry that we could not help you with this service but we will surely provide. Pastatime can be vegetarian or vegan on request and for breakfast if you tell us we also prepare vegan cakes. Best greetings from the Bigallo Staff

The hostel is located a bit out of the city. It takes an hour by public transportation. If you want to be in the countryside, then the location is absolutely ideal! It's located on a large hill that overlooks Florence. Their terrace has perhaps the best view of any hostel in Florence. The spaces were super old but clean, and the beds were just fine. There was more open space in this hostel than I expected. Beds weren't bunked. Friendly staff and guests. Delicious dinner for good price at night.

The hostel is really far out of the centre and then you had to walk up a massive hill before you get to it. Pasta time is really good and it's a very social hostel due to lots of lovely wine! Would recommend staying there if you didn't mind a bit of the treck into Florence city centre

Hello! We are about 7 km from the center and to get here you take 2 busses. It is true that these days the bus trip may be longer as we had a strong storm last week; many roads in the south of Florence have been closed. Still some days and everything should turn normal. We really try to make hosts socialize - and not only for the local wine - making their stay an opportunity to meet and live real tuscan live. We all send you our best greetings - Bigallo Team

It was a fantastic place to stay in, such a beautiful old building restored into a magnificent place to stay. The staff were friendly and provided a great service, the surroundings of the hostel were amazing and the sunsets in the evening were out of this world.

Lovely saff, pitoresque location, poor wifi,

Hello! It was pretty to have you here with us! Thanks for writing! We take note that you find our WiFi poor, sorry. We decided to have it only in the common areas and not on our terrace, garden or in the rooms. It is also true that being the building antique and so big it is not so easy to organize wifi in all the areas. Best greetings from all of us - Bigallo Staff

Fantastic hostel, we really enjoyed our stay. We loved the location as we enjoy walking in countryside, however not ideal if you're trying to get back late at night due to unlit country roads. Otherwise not too hard to get to. (8/23 then 24 bus). The food was great and met some nice people, wine was really good too! Our alcove was clean and felt safe to leave our belongings in. Lovely garden and terrace. Staff were very pleasant and always happy to help. Could have stayed indefinitely.

Absolutely loved our stay here! Didn't want to leave, actually. Worth the long bus ride. The walk uphill is lovely. The fact that it is hard to get back to the hostel at night makes that everybody gathers on the terrace (with a beautiful view on Florence) and enjoys the pasta and wine together. Good evenings with wonderful people! 24-bed dorm was a nice experience, the alcove felt really cozy. Only thing is the bathroom facilities that could be a little bit more modern and clean, in my opinion.

Hello! thank you for your writing and that you loved to stay with us. Indeed one of our pricipal bathrooms is still closed as we are completely remaking them. Next week they will be completely ready and available for our guests. Sorry that you still had to use the old bathrooms and we do our best to clean them ( once in the morning and once in the late afternoon) Just try to come back another time! Best greetings. Bigallo Staff

So good. Thank you for having us! Alex and Harry

I simply loved my time I spent here. The atmosphere, staff and location were simply amazing. There was a local event held at the hostel on one night which was great fun! We had a lesson on classical Italian dancing with some great music. Despite it being slightly out the way, it was more than worth it. The sights around the hostel were fantastic.

Hello! Sure - we remember that you all danced italian folk and it was our pleasure to see that you all enjoyed it and had fun. Thanks for having chosen our Hostel and hope you can come back! We know we are out of the center of Florence and that it can be hard to get here but then once arrived the surroundings and the historic building makes it a real italian experience. We all send you our best greetings - BIgallo Staff

Amazing location and a truly unique experience, the only issue is the lack of public kitchen as it means you don't have many options for lunch and dinner meals and limits your independence. The provided breakfast is fantastic and the views are impossible to beat, just make sure you stamp your bus ticket on the way there or you may get fined!
