My favourite hostel so far in all my journey to Europe. Incredible atmosphere, friendly staff, wonderful pasta, beautiful view from the terrace, incredible garden... I really can't say enough good things about this place. I even asked to stay an extra night. It would be worth a trip to Italy just to come here.
I arrived later than the opening hours of reception, because of the buses were striking and the owner/receptionist actually came to pick me up in the bus stop, which was super nice. The hostel is very clean, perfect location if you want to spend a day in a busy Florence and evenings in a calm place. Beautiful surroundings, beautiful old building, basic but good breakfast, friendly staff and easy to get to Florence on a public transport. Would stay again anytime.
The Bigallo is incredibly beautiful. It's nestled far from the city, which can be inconvenient without a car & those weak of knees up the hill, but it's a former monastery, and you can't really find that beauty elsewhere for the price. The woman at the front desk was so wonderfully hospitable & kind.
Beautiful place . Wish there were more signage on the frontage road
A little out of the main city so a bit of a journey to get in and out of the city. Amazing hostel though, really good view of Florence, delicious dinner and really good wine. All the staff members were so helpful and lovely.
This hostel is really unique and awesome in preserving this uniqueness. The old spital can really be seen and imagined in the great halls, staircases and corridors. The building also has a wonderful garden with a great view over the city where one can hang out. Diner portions are a bit small but it was good with tasty wine. Breakfast was also good. The staff is really nice and helpful and gives good advice. Only problem was the loud private party going on on a balcony right below the dormitory.
This place was by far the best part of my visit to Florence. The history is astounding...it was built in the 1200s, which means that that lovely sunset view once contained an entirely different set of buildings, buildings where Dante would have lived as he was learning to write. The present of the building is just as beautiful, with an orchard full of tasty fruit that reappears for breakfast baked into cakes. The staff are friendly and enthusiastic about the history. Definitely worth the trek.
Stayed for 2 nights, and the views of the countryside and downtown Florence are absolutely spectacular. Stayed in the 24 bed room, which was pretty novel and I enjoyed it, but the comments about old WC facilities are correct. Bring mosquito repellant. No AC, but heat wasn't really an issue. Definitely walk around and see the grounds and garden. If you're on foot, prepare for a walk uphill, but once you're there, you won't want to leave. Breakfast and pasta time were both good. Recommended.
- nice huge old stone house out of town (8km / 1 hr by bus) from Florence - huge garden with fruit trees where you could pick and eat plums, figs, apples, pears etc - no air con -> mosquitos - got a map,for a trekking tour :) - within Tuscany hills - pasta + wine at night on the huge terrace with view of sunset and Florence - nothing close around except for a small cafeteria (downhill at bus stop) - breakfast included - wifi only around reception
I can't say enough good things about this place. 100% worth the long walk everyone in the reviews is whinging about. Amazing for solo travellers, probably the most social hostel I've ever been in. Pasta time is well worth the €7. The view of Florence from the terrace is breathtaking, and it's not too much effort to head in for the day. I did it 3 days in a row with different groups of people who I had just met that day. When I was there the guests were about 80% Australian, so Aussies: book now!
I have given good location because I wanted to relax in the countryside without having to travel very far for it as I have no car and are using public transport but if uyou wanted to explore Florence it is possible but requires a 2 short bus trips. the only bad thing I can say is there is no laundry facilities. staff were great even providing vegan meals when asked.
The hostel is located a bit out of the city. It takes an hour by public transportation. If you want to be in the countryside, then the location is absolutely ideal! It's located on a large hill that overlooks Florence. Their terrace has perhaps the best view of any hostel in Florence. The spaces were super old but clean, and the beds were just fine. There was more open space in this hostel than I expected. Beds weren't bunked. Friendly staff and guests. Delicious dinner for good price at night.
The hostel is really far out of the centre and then you had to walk up a massive hill before you get to it. Pasta time is really good and it's a very social hostel due to lots of lovely wine! Would recommend staying there if you didn't mind a bit of the treck into Florence city centre
It was a fantastic place to stay in, such a beautiful old building restored into a magnificent place to stay. The staff were friendly and provided a great service, the surroundings of the hostel were amazing and the sunsets in the evening were out of this world.
Lovely saff, pitoresque location, poor wifi,
Fantastic hostel, we really enjoyed our stay. We loved the location as we enjoy walking in countryside, however not ideal if you're trying to get back late at night due to unlit country roads. Otherwise not too hard to get to. (8/23 then 24 bus). The food was great and met some nice people, wine was really good too! Our alcove was clean and felt safe to leave our belongings in. Lovely garden and terrace. Staff were very pleasant and always happy to help. Could have stayed indefinitely.
Absolutely loved our stay here! Didn't want to leave, actually. Worth the long bus ride. The walk uphill is lovely. The fact that it is hard to get back to the hostel at night makes that everybody gathers on the terrace (with a beautiful view on Florence) and enjoys the pasta and wine together. Good evenings with wonderful people! 24-bed dorm was a nice experience, the alcove felt really cozy. Only thing is the bathroom facilities that could be a little bit more modern and clean, in my opinion.
So good. Thank you for having us! Alex and Harry
I simply loved my time I spent here. The atmosphere, staff and location were simply amazing. There was a local event held at the hostel on one night which was great fun! We had a lesson on classical Italian dancing with some great music. Despite it being slightly out the way, it was more than worth it. The sights around the hostel were fantastic.

Amazing location and a truly unique experience, the only issue is the lack of public kitchen as it means you don't have many options for lunch and dinner meals and limits your independence. The provided breakfast is fantastic and the views are impossible to beat, just make sure you stamp your bus ticket on the way there or you may get fined!
