Fantastic hostel, we really enjoyed our stay. We loved the location as we enjoy walking in countryside, however not ideal if you're trying to get back late at night due to unlit country roads. Otherwise not too hard to get to. (8/23 then 24 bus). The food was great and met some nice people, wine was really good too! Our alcove was clean and felt safe to leave our belongings in. Lovely garden and terrace. Staff were very pleasant and always happy to help. Could have stayed indefinitely.
So good. Thank you for having us! Alex and Harry
Amazing location and a truly unique experience, the only issue is the lack of public kitchen as it means you don't have many options for lunch and dinner meals and limits your independence. The provided breakfast is fantastic and the views are impossible to beat, just make sure you stamp your bus ticket on the way there or you may get fined!
Though a hike to reach, the scenery of this hostel is quite worth it. The terrace has a beautiful view of Florence, the garden is also lovely. However, I was there during a wedding and these lovely spaces were unavailable to us during one night of my stay. The pasta dinner (7€) that eveningalso consisted of bow tie pasta, tomatoes, and olive oil, hardly worth the money. I would inquire if there are other events happening there before you book your stay. Otherwise, the hostel was wonderful
Nicest hostel we have ever stayed at. Amazing for meeting people because of €7 pasta and wine in the evening. Bus ride (23A and 24) and easy uphill walk are definitely worth it. Beautiful views across Florence, great staff and comfortable beds. We are all already planning to come back next year.
The way from downtown Florence to the hostel is exhausting, you have to take 2 buses plus a 20 uphill walking, but once you're there the experience is nice. Eating pasta and drinking wine (7€) with your roomies while seeing the sunset is an amazing experience. The staff was always so kind and the info was useful. Beds weren't too great and the room was too hot during the night because there are not neither air conditioner not fans. I would recommend it only if you don't mind arriving so tired.
Very beautiful hostel, a converted monastery which is very picturesque and overlooks all of Florence from a distance. Lovely view at night. Staff are lovely, and pasta night is very homely. It is far too long out of Florence though, and a very hot 20 minute walk up a hill, and that's after catching 2 buses already. That is pretty much the only downside, but it is very hard to get into Florence.
Great hostel and atmosphere. Lots of solo travelers so it was easy to meet people. Only downside is the distance from the city centre which is stated in HostelWorld. Pasta dinner and wine is worth it.
I regret not exploring the area surrounding the hostel, ask the staff about trails to explore. A relaxing escape from the city. If you enjoy history, pasta & wine dinners, and watching the sunset over Florence from high in the hills, stay here for a minimum of 2 nights. kind of a pain to get to (not a big deal if you make sure to have correct directions), and the bus stops running around 22:00. The city is too beautiful at night, so plan at least one night accommodation in the city center.
This hostel is beautiful, clean, spacious, super accommodating, and all together wonderful. I had a great experience while staying here. It is a bit far from the city center, but it felt like a perfect escape to return to at the end of the day. The staff and hospitality is top quality. Staying here allowed me to experience a different, more magical, and real side of Florence. I would definitely stay at Ostello del Bigallo again when I return.
Although quite far out from the centre of Florence, the location of this hostel was absolutely stunning. Amazing views over florence, brilliant house (once a monastery), big rooms, hot showers and good atmosphere. Staff were so lovely and so helpful. One downside however is there is no kitchen available for guests but nevertheless breakfast is amazing and great value for money!

Ostello del Bigallo is the best hostel I've stayed at (and I've stayed at a lot). It's a very cool place about a 40 minute bus ride from Santa Maria Novella station. The distance is worth it not only because the hostel is great, but also because the views of Florence from there are unbeatable. There are big lockers that fit an entire pack and then some. The staff is incredibly friendly. They offer a 7 Euro dinner and wine which is great. I have nothing negative to say. Highly recommended!
Cool place to stay. Not at all worth the hassle of getting to the hostel. Dinner is a pricey 7€, no laundry close to the hostel, and wifi is only in two rooms near the front desk. I wouldn't come back.
I really enjoyed my stay here. The location is difficult to get to on foot, but manageable, and is situated with a beautiful view across Florence and the countryside. The atmosphere was great amongst the travellers staying here and the monastery was spacious with real character. Not the best place for quick and easy access to Florence without a car, but a great escape from the city for a short while.
It's a wonderful hostel with a great view over the city. We booked the 24 persons dorm and it turned out that the huge room is divided by small cabins for 2 persons which gives you some privacy as well. It was clean and the staff was very helpful and friendly. The only thing is, that they didn't refill the breakfast buffet, the day I was there. But everything else was just great. The location is awesome! I highly recommend to go there. Especially when you have a motorbike or car.
So far and no wifi on room. All other things were excellent.
great hostel, far from city centre tho and after eight it is hard to get to hostel (walking hours or taxi$$) but great staff and place!
The hostel is a little hard to reach, but it's advertised as such, and there are no surprises. It was such a beautiful and pleasant place to stay.
Hostel is a good place to stay for one night, but it is far out of Florence so you'll have to reach it by car... Or walking really far! Fabulous views but there is no vibe at the hostel. The breakfast was not good but you'll be able to find something to eat to tie you over before getting lunch.
I loved my stay at here. It is a beautiful historic building and has a great location. It is a bit outside of the city but the view of Florence from the balcony makes up for it. It was nice to retreat back to the hostel after a busy day in Florence. The pasta suppers and the wine were delicious. The staff was very helpful when planning visits to Florence and it had a good atmosphere for meeting other travellers. I would highly recommend if you would like to see Florence and Tuscan countryside!
